Hi. I run a Japanese diesel 4WD (Isuzu 4JG2-TC engine). I have always been undecided as to which of these 2 engine oil are better for my application, Delo 400 or Delo CXJ.

On the one hand, the Delo400 seems to use better ISOSYN base oil but it’s additive package seems to be a compromise of Euro & Japanese engine requirement.

On the other hand, I believe the DeloCXJ has it additive package SPECIALLY tailored for Japanese diesel engine. For example, it has a higher sulfated ash (don’t know why) and can operate in our area with 0.3% sulfur diesel fuel.

So after so many years of indecision, I finally came to you fellows to educate me on which engine oil to go for in my case.

Thanks.

Hello from the united states. Go with something that the manufacture recommends since delo CXJ is geared towards japanese diesels that would be your best bet IMOP.

Delo CXJ is also the prime recommendation here for Japanese diesels. It also typically has higher calcium levels than US diesel oils as specified by the Japanese OEM's to combat valve train wear.

It's interesting that many Japanese diesels run here on Delo 400 (including, I believe Caltex's own Japanese diesel fleet, at least at one point) with no untoward effects.
I run a Nissan TD42T engine on Delvac 1 on extended (20,000km) oil drains, totally against Nissans recommendations, and the results (so far) are superb. Bear in mind our Diesel is only 50ppm (0.05%) sulphur. http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=26;t=000229

There is history as to why the Japanese OEM's specify different oils to the US and Europe, and has been discussed on here in the past quite a few times.
In a nutshell, there were problems (accelerted valve train wear, amongst other things) when API CG-4 oils were introduced in Japanese diesels, and so any oil including CG-4 or a later spec has been banned by the OEM's since, regardless of how good (vastly superior) an oil like Delo 400 or Delvac 1 is to the originally specified oils.

Using Delo here exclusively on Japanese built HINO and Toyota diesel, no problems, HINO has done 286,000 miles and Toyota has done around 70,000 miles, all running as good as new with original compression.

Tourist,
If you do some searching, you will see many posts that I have made trying to find the correct oil for my Nissan Navara TD.

It's a CF, Jaso DH-1 oil, and so complies with what Nissan tell me I should use, while local dealers use Delo 400, and/or Castrol FMX 5w30 with magnatec, or Valvoline 20W-50 semi-syn.
