where do u place delcos? better than fram? anyone know im detail how good they are? as good as purolator? any pics of one?

In the past, they seemed to be the top of the lower priced filters, having twice the media of Purolator and many others and 3 times as much as Fram. Currently many of them are the newer Ecore construction. They are widely bashed for being different. Yes, out of the millions used in the last 6 years, there are examples of them that look bad when removed from service.

The Ecores are a product of Champion Laboratories who sell filters under a number of names. If they produced an Ecore to fit my truck, I would use it. I am already using a cartridge filter in my car, all of which use similar construction, but are easier to detect problems in.

Many people judge filters on how they are constructed. There is very little evidence to back up the superiority of the favored steel endcaps and center tube or amounts of media.

Fram is almost universally condemned here for its cardboard endcaps and skimpy media. I haven't used one in over 10 years since I cut open the last one I bought. Solid facts to base my decision, no way. That wouldn't keep me from buying a Delco over a Fram. At least, unlike Purolator, both are made in America by American companies.

If you can find the metal core Delco's (and you still can) buy them. They are good to go. i bought all the metal core Delco's for my truck that they had left at my local Walmart---12 of them.

You are good to go for 60,000 miles at 5,000 mile oil changes
Sit tight and wait to see if a better oil filter is sold in the mean time

I follow my OLM. So, if it goes over 5,000 miles, I am not worried at all about the Delco (with metal core) being able to handle it.

Quite frankly, it is the stock GM filter and the recommended GM replacement part. GM recommends to follow your OLM, so if it fails, then it will be GM's warranty departments problem.

My AC Delco PF52 has a silicone ADBV. I rate them as a best buy at $3.99 (regular price). I do not purchase filters with nitrile ADBVs.

Other silicone ADBV filters I recommend that won't empty your wallet are Purolator, Bosch, Wix, Napa Gold, Carquest Blue.

yup the old ones where golden great filters the newer Delco are escares not worth a [censored], i put them at the bottom of the food chain.

New delcos are fine for whatever your OLM can throw at it. Don't let the scare tactics scare you.

At the worst, they may not hold up as well if you have severe moisture or coolant problems. If so, you need to be worrying about that, not the filter.

I had 2 scare tactics, called 2 FAILED filters that keep me from ever buying another AC Delco filter. That used to be all I'd use. Some may remember when I posted about the issue.

I find it funny that bitog member experiences with failed ecores is now relabeled "scare tactics"

Use whatever you want. Just don't come back crying if you experience a failure because you listened to the ecore lovers.

Nothing like a first hand "scare tactic". Seems the only way some people will understand is when it happens to them (ie, get a filter failure).

Now it seems every engine running an Escare has major coolant leakage into the crankcase issues.

Well not the dozens of ones where we have seen good looking posts from. I am really waiting to see Webfor's NPS at the end of the next OCI.

I need to clarify something about my earlier post about my failed AC Delcos. I do not know if they were eCores, don't care because I've used Ecore Super Techs without issues. My experience was simple - I had no oil pressure at start up until I revved my engine on a filter with just under 3k miles. It happened at EVERY start up. I changed just the filter and problem gone. Then, a long while later it happened again (different filter and purchased long enough apart to be different batches as well as bought at another store). I have since stopped using Delcos and NEVER has the issue again. That's 2 times, 2 different Delcos failed me.
