Deep Scratch

I just bought a 2019 Passat and it has a very deep scratch right through the clearcoat. I am going to put on an American Flag decal
over it. How should I prepare it first? Thanks, and please stay safe

Touch up paint pen. Follow instructions on pen, and give it plenty of time to dry before applying decal.

How deep? Unless it's to bare metal and/or so deep that it shows a ridge thru the decal itself, leave it alone. At some point you might want to remove the decal and not have a mess created by quickie touch up repair.

I agree, little touch up paint just to seal it in. As far as the decal, if it is going to be a long term thing, I would make sure the area is clean, maybe a lil prep spray to get good adhesion, then put it down.

If the decal is to avoid repairing the paint, I would just put the sticker on.

There are a few simple methods to get great touch-up results, but I'm not sure which would be best for your situation without seeing the damage. I typically use a small syringe to apply paint from a dealer-sourced pen.
