I am planning to change the struts on my 07 Nissan altima. I recently bought an impact wrench and would like to know which impact sockets(deep or shallow) would be better suited for this job. Please give your opinions.

Whatever allows the impact to fit in the wheelwell. I suspect you will end up with a breaker bar, various ratchets and wrenches for most of it.

Ditto. All my impact sockets are deep walled.

The only case I can think of where it might matter is the crankshaft bolt on Honda balancers; supposedly a special thick wall socket is required, so as to maximum twist on that bolt. Kinda specialized though, for one particular situation.

looks like an ok basic set.

upgrades would be CR-MO, and the flank drive type.

would be the cr-mo and flank drive err off corner loading type

Probably catch [censored] for this but I've been running the same set of HF deep well impact sockets for going on 10 years now. They have been absolutely solid.

The Harbor Freight set is pretty dang good for the money. I have MATCO ones that I used when I was wrenching for a living, but the Harbor Freight ones I have work just as well.

O and when in doubt, buy both deep and shallow. And mid if they offer it.

I have the Tekton torque wrenches , 1/4" and 1/2" huge socket/ratchet set and they are an awesome value. Very well built and stout. Have used them for a lot of suspension/brake work on very rusty items and they work well and take a beating. Highly recommend Tekton from Amazon.

I have used the Campbell-Hausfield ones from Walmart with great success too. Never broke one yet. Deep ones tend to be more useful on an impact wrench but sometimes space is an issue. Normally if it is an impact wrench won't fit regardless

I may or may not have used a chrome shallow socket in the past with an impact gun. Granted, it was on a bolt that didn't need to be hammered on for ages. A few impacts and it was out. Otherwise, the HF deepwells work for most of everything I need to do.

Have some deep Snap-on chrome 1/2" drive sockets I've beat to death with an impact for 20+ years that have yet to crack muchless shatter.

Of course you have to be careful using them on a impact swivel adapter.....The socket can come flying off at supersonic speeds & hurt you!

Back on topic.....I couldn't live without Shallow & Deep, And I like my Intermediate/semi-deep sockets as well

Thanks. Will shop around for deep ones

I use both deep and regular shorts equally. If I could have only one I would probably get the shorts and a deep wheel socket.

Thank you for the info. The available HF sockets are CR-MO while both of these are CR-V. My understanding is CR-MO is preferable to CR-V for durability and strength. Opinion?
