Dealership response

I bought a new kia forte, the dealership offers the first oil change for free. I emailed the service department and asked what brand and wieght oil they use. The service manager replied back with Mobil 1 Synthetic Blend 5w 30. I have never heard of or seen a Mobil 1 blend, can anyone shed some light on what he might be talkin about. Or maybe this guy is just a suit behind a phone and a desk and doesn't know what he is talkin about.

Mobil 1 does not make anything but full synthetic. It may be a Mobil synthetic blend though. The only Mobil blend I'm aware of is Mobil Super HM. He more than likely doesn't know what hes talkin about.

He probably just means mobil Super

and you can call almost any conventional a syn blend now by definition.

+1 If it were Mobil1 they would have to charge you at least $70 or their hair would fall out.

This dealership doesn't happen to sell GM products also, do they? XOM makes GM's dexos blend. Otherwise, it's probably just MS5K or whatever they get in bulk from the local XOM distributor.

The oil change price is $39.95 so I knew by that it wasn't Mobil 1.

I've been running MS5K in my other two cars for a year now with no problems, so if thats what it is I'm fine with that. When I do take it in for the OC I'll just ask to see a msds sheet or something.

It is a synthetic blend according to the data sheet...

The manager is correct. It is a blend of synthetic basestocks and additives.

The fogging is from the solvents evaporating from the plasticizers in the various materials in the car.

I don't have that problem with either car. All windows EXCEPT windshield tinted.

Why not? All he has to do is pour a few ounces of Mobil 1, then fill the rest with some old stock of Mobil Clean and call it a very special Semi-Clean Mobil Blend #1
