Hey guys, just did my first oil change last week. I did it earlier on, because I don't care for the gunk and metal shaving left over from factory/initial use..

However, I noticed two things:

A. When I first start to drive, the engine sounds louder than when I had the FF in the engine. I also notice the engine revs are slightly louder when accelerating on a highway etc. However, what I am to gather from my research thus far, is that the M1 AFE is not exactly quiet compared to other 0W-20 oils on the market. What I wanted to know is if this is normal.

B. My MPGs are slightly off compared to the factory fill (however I have not filled the tank yet, so I am just going off of what the Subaru is reporting at the moment (it may be inaccurate).

Now, the manual calls for 5.1 quarts and I added roughly 5.2 quarts from the get-go since I knew that I needed to change the original factory installed oil filter a day after the OC. The day after I then installed a brand new blue OEM filter, so I had attempted to compensate for any lost oil that was stuck in the old filter.

(I noticed some left over oil pooling next to the old filter in the bin a few days later, so I figured I did the right thing by adding a 1/10 of a quart)

Basically, my question is this... Would that extra 1/10 of a quart that I added initially cause the engine to run louder at certain times of operation (it could be my imagination hearing things that aren't there too) and what is the cause of the minor loss in MPGs?

It's just the placebo effect. You're a little too worried lol.

You could fill it up with 1 quart over full, and it probably would hurt it or make any difference that you could notice.

Or if it makes you feel better, check back in 500miles to see after the oil has had a chance to get to full heat a few times and enter service.

Also, does anyone have any tips for the terrible dipstick that comes with the Subie? It's so inaccurate!

Also, for those that are wondering, the only reason why I am nervous, is because this was my first oil change that I've ever done by myself.. Other than that, I don't really worry about the car much.
