I saw a TV commercial last night that said you can now buy Craftsman tools at ACE Hardware. When did they start selling Craftsman Tools outside of Sears?

Saw that too last night. Never heard that before or seen the tools in my Ace store. Good move IMO.

I wonder if Ace will still allow the hassle-free hand tool return policy? I've been recently to a KMart that has Craftsman tools in stock and the selection does not compare to an actual Sears store, but would suffice for gifts or basic handyman work. (lots of multi piece mechanics sets, etc)

I have some ACE-branded wrenches I'm very happy with. If they discontinue or cheapen them, it would take some competition away.

I've never been puzzled about where I should go for Craftsman.

I don't see increasing distribution helping their sales much, in fact, it might reduce the impulse buys at Sears that go with a tool purchase.

That's good news, as long as Craftsman is made in USA, I will buy them. A lot of the major brands I see at my Ace are Made in China. Even Plumb hammers, are Made in China, and they aren't any cheaper. No thanks to Made in China, Plumb. I tell the Ace guys at the store everytime, and they agree. Hopefully management starts to listen.

Uhh, last I heard Craftsman finally broke down and moved the majority of their manufacturing to... CHINA. They did this 5-6 years ago if I remember correctly.

They were one of the last ones to go, and when they did go it was big news. They just couldn't be profitable if they didn't move. It was a choice of either move to China or go bankrupt. So is the way business works today.
Adapt to the changing times or die.

The Chinese can make good stuff. But I agree with you that I would rather buy "Made In America".

Uhh, check in at Sears. Last time I was in there about 98% of the actual "Craftsman" hand tools were made in USA. Power tools and certain other items are another story. And the "Evolv" cheapie line they sell is all Chinese.

half of the Craftsman tools (wrenches, ect......not power tools)I have bought say "MADE IN CHINA"
want a pic?

What type of wrenches?

Last I checked at sears the pliers, screwdrivers, sockets, chrome open end wrenches, impacts, brake tools, prybars, chisels, pullers, automotive specific tools, mini small screwdriver set, magnetic trays, allen wrenches, and even the little metal things that hold the sockets were all made in USA.

Now the vice grip pliers, little mini pliers, multi screwdriver, evolv [censored], electrical stuff, power tools, gloves, jacks, jackstands, black color combowrenches, dogbone wrench, and little non-important stuff was made in China land.

Why are you buying the chinese cman tools when there are american made alternatives in the same store? They are not forcing you to buy the chinese tools. The only chinese tools at sears I buy are gearwrench when they are on sale.

I thought ACE stores were franchise ?

Craftsman tools are great for the DIY'er and not the professional mechanic that needs very high quality tools.

Yes, please post a pic.

I agree with Defektes. I stopped in at Sears last night (needed other stuff from the mall anyway) and his observations are accurate. ALL the "Craftsman" brand sockets, ratchets, wrenches, extensions, torque wrenches, impact sockets, torx bits, screwdrivers, automotive tools, and a lot of other stuff are marked "made in USA". I didn't look a power tools, woodworking tools, etc. I did see some Chinese Craftsman items but they were the exception. Gloves, etc.

The Gearwrench stuff and the "Evolv" stuff continues to be made in China.

This is at a large Sears in a busy suburban Chicago mall.

There are plenty of craftsman hand tools that are made in china mostly pliers, screwdivers, strap wrenches etc. I would not buy them. Gearwrench chinese and taiwan tools are better than USA craftsman by a long shot, which is a sad really.
