You decide .

Juxtapose the sales data recently reported here http://pressroom.toyota.com/Releases/Viewplain?id=TYT2007070389166 by toyota for these four vehicles - and the just 'published' MSN carried CR article here titled ' Top 10 Vehicles for Familly Travel' here http://autos.msn.com/advice/CRArt.aspx?contentid=4024867&topart=passenger.

Sales data reads as follows
june07,june06,%CHANGE /ytd07,ytd06,%CHANGE

#7) Lexus RX350 With a spacious and quiet interior as plush as those found in some luxury cars, this well-rounded SUV is very refined and comfortable. The V6 engine is smooth, and all-wheel drive combined with standard electronic stability control make it a good choice for winter driving. Reliability is very good.

RX350/400h 9,349 9,651 -6.7% / 49,241 53,282 -8.8%

#8)Toyota Avalon. Quality materials, lots of interior room, and even a reclining backseat (in some trim levels) make for a limo-like interior. Very quiet and comfortable, and with a smooth and quick V6 engine, Toyota's biggest sedan is a good value with excellent reliability and crash-test results.

AVALON 5,661 6,608 -17.5% / 37,522 45,036 -17.8%

#9)Toyota Highlander Limited. Built on the same platform as the upscale Lexus RX, this more-affordable midsized SUV has many of the same virtues. It is quiet and refined, with good fit and finish. The Highlander has earned excellent reliability ratings. Unlike the RX, the Highlander has a third seat, although it is only big enough for children.

HIGHLANDER 11,253 10,436 3.8% / 64,749 61,357 4.2%

#10)Toyota Sienna XLE. Toyota's minivan offers seating for up to eight, and like the Odyssey, it has a third seat that folds into the floor. While not as agile as the Odyssey, it is quieter, with a comfortable ride and impressive crash-test and reliability ratings. All-wheel drive is available, which you can't get with the Honda .

SIENNA 12,780 13,381 -8.0% / 73,349 80,785 -10.4%

Note :
The Highlander Limited within its own group (Highlander) is off projected target the most .Same in terms of RX350 within RX350-RX400h group - at least for June.

Given how the rest of the 'media' sees it .... esp Highlander and relevant competition ...... breathtaking performance by CR .

I'll take it even up ; wanna bet TOYOTA CONTRIBUTES the most in undisclosed 'research' payments ?

MEMO TO GM,FORD, CHRYSLER ,HYUNDAI, et al,

WHILE YOU DO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE GO GET WITH CONSUMER GUIDE , WHO ALTHOUGH NOT PERFECT WILL AT LEAST GIVE YOU A MORE FAIR REPRESENTATION RELATIVE TO TOYOTA .
THEY ALSO REPRESENT THE OTHER SIDE OF TOYOTA BETTER AS WELL .

I personally never looked at their reviews, thats why i get road and track, car and driver, and a whole long list of others, the only thing i look for is their reliability numbers, and you can't deny toyota seems to do well there..

I'll take CU's findings over those other car and motor rags any day of the week. Some of the latter are just complete whores. The only people CU cares about keeping happy are their subscribers.

CU doesn't take money from any manufacturer, and were willing to go to war with Suzuki over their findings - and win.

No, CU is not perfect. Nor are they perfectly objective. And their road tests are not filled with exciting hyperbole and seventy-five sexy road shots like the big commercial rags. They cater to the middle of the market. But they are more objective and thorough than anyone else.

So if CU is saying good things about somebody's product, it means all the more.

Related although somewhat off topic - did you catch how toyota 'played' everybody concerning their recently reported USA June07 and YTD sales % ?

Just when you think you've seen it all ......

So it goes like this .

On the second and third of July (07) the world starts getting individual OEM sales data and by the 3rd , the media starts reporting their initial articles comparing June07 vs June06 , YTD and how everybody did in the USA .
Most focus on how GM ,Ford, and Chrysler did vs the Asian Imports . I have about thirty mainstream publications with articles sourced from REUTERS and of course , the AP - hugely overstating toyotas'%s - all attributed directly to toyota and the information they provided on Tuesday(2July07).

Well , of course , these errors are not corrected by toyota until late 3July07 (Wednesday - catch the timing) - and notice , no acknowledgement of the errors - its as if it didn't happen - and as of mid AM today , July 6th , none of the publications have pointed out the errors or corrected their articles .

As to be expected , the articles themselves are neccessarily misleading because of toyotas' initial faulty information .
Its just an opinion but I THINK what they don't want recognized is how they are slowing vs Honda , Nissan and many of the Europeans makes .

Thanks to Gilitar we can illustrate this misinformation using CNN . From the other thread this link

GM sales plummet 21%
Big Three automakers continue to lose ground to imports as all U.S. car makers report lower sales, and most overseas automakers post strong gains.
July 3 2007: 3:40 PM EDT

DETROIT (Reuters) -- The big three American automakers all reported declines for June, as they continued to lose ground to import brands ......

" - Toyota, which has overtaken GM as the world's largest automaker, said Tuesday that its U.S. sales rose 10.2 percent (should read 6.1%) in June, selling 245,739 vehicles in the United States for the month. The results include both Toyota and Lexus brands.( And Scion .)

" - The Japanese automaker said car sales rose 9 percent,(should read 5.0%) driven by big increases in sales of its Camry sedan and the Prius hybrid vehicle. Truck sales rose 11.9 (should read 7.8%) percent, boosted by a big increase in sales of the new Tundra pickup.

( Keep in mind many led with toyotas (incorrect) result in the headline .)

I hate CR. I bought a new 2002 Subaru Impreza RS based on their high scores for reliability. That car had so many serious problems, that Subaru did not want to address, that I traded it in after less than 2 years. The problems mine had were quite common, yet CR reliability scores for it remained very high.

Subaru wouldn't take care of warranty problems & you hate CR for it & not Subaru? There is a disconnect in the logic there or maybe there is more to your post.

I follow his logic perfectly.

CR is apparently wrong about the reliability of that car, whether or not Subaru addressed the problems has nothing to do with CR being apparently wrong about it's reliability.

I just checked CU's scores for that vehicle. They didn't rate it all that great for '02, and even less so for the preceding MYs. Several black dots were indicated in expensive mechanical areas for that MY frame.
