Wonder who used this stuff? Anyone

"Bullet Premium Motor Oil claims to be a 5w30 and to contain detergents, protect against wear, and fight rust and corrosion. PQIA's analysis of this sample shows that its viscosity is nearly 60% below the minimum requirements for a 5w30, and it contains no detergents or anti-wear additives. The test results show this product does not meet the requirements of the obsolete SC/CC specification it claims, or any other industry recognized specification for motor oils.

The extremely low viscosity of the product tested, together with the lack of vital additives, would likely result in damage to automobile engines."

...as in "put a bullet through your engine block"

I'd use it in an emergency....to help start a bonfire.

wow .52 tbn seems like they took old motor oil and just dumped in in a bottle. heck i would actually take a change with some 10k used PU or mobil 1 before this stuff.

NOTE: PQIA is pleased to report that on March 28, 2013, RelaDyne took swift action to recall defective motor oil sold in quart bottles under the "Bullet" brand name. The recall is on Bullet 5W-20, 5w30, 10w30, 10W-40 grades. "The product involved in the recall is identified with RED caps, (black caps are not affected).

Does anyone know what the cause of the "defective" product was? Is this a packaging mistake at a bottling plant? Or was the problem simply, 'we got caught'?

I would certainly think it is a "we got caught" situation. 99% of the people who bought this stuff will never be aware of the recall anyways. Hopefully they just use a quart to top off the oil in a beater.

Moral of the story, buy only name brand oil with names you know. The bigger the company, the more likely they will have the money and or research lab to investigate any engine damage claims.Buy Bonzo Bongo oil from Yakimoro Distilleries and good luck on that coverage.

Keep in mind that there are many fine quality private brand oils out there that meet SN/GF-5 at lower prices, even though you may not have heard of the brand. The key is to look for the API Donut or Starburst symbols along with SN and/or GF-5. The garbage oils do not put the API symbols on their labels as the API is quick to file law suits for such trademark infringment.
