costco gas?

Gas is gas. Since I started driving in 1992 I've bought the cheapest gas I could find. We're talking no name, big name, etc. Whatever was cheapest. Including lots of Costco, BJ's, etc.

I've probably put about 500k on my various cars, going from a carburated Mustang to a modern DI Turbo engine. Never an issue with any of the gas I've bought.

Mustang - bought @ 58k, done at 175k (due to the body, not the engine)
Another Mustang - new to 48k
Escort - 100k to 125k
Explorer - new to 75k
G35 Sedan - new to 98k
Taurus - new to 36k

All have been fed a steady diet of the cheapest gas of the octane the manufacturer requires. Never an issue. IMHO Top Tier is more marketing scam than anything else.

we run a small fleet and buy close to 4000 dollars a MONTH in fuel.

Almost always cheapo 87 at the busiest place in town.

I haven't had a fuel related issue in decades.

Maybe it is different now with their new add pack, but when I used to run Costco 87 in my Astro van, I did notice a performance decrease compared to Shell 87. Haven't tried it in a year or so.

I fill up at Costco regularly, when in state. I take a road trip once a month out to Michigan/Chicago, in which case I use top tier gas, so in the event that Costco gas doesn't have enough detergents the top tier gas used on the road trip should clean things up a bit.

Strange, my cars are the other way around. My 06 Scion tC, which is rated for 27mpg highway averaged 29mpg over 4 tanks of gas during a road trip this weekend. That was with 3 people in the car and a loaded trunk. All on Shell gas.

for me;

Best millage = Giant, Weis, Sheets

Worst millage = Sunoco, Shell, Gulf

My Costco gas station just got the new additive package and it is easily 20 cents per gallon cheaper than other convenient stations plus I get another 10+ cents a gallon off using my Costco Amex card, which means I'm saving 30+ cents a gallon, and the car runs great.

The only time I've ever noticed a difference in performance with gas was in my 89' IROC Camaro. Shell gas made it knock like crazy so I only ran Chevron premium in it and there was a big difference, my 2008 Toyota doesn't seem to be as picky.

I would take the new Costco gas over Shell every time, especially with the price difference.

Although we shop @ Costco a time or two each month, the gas pumps always seems to have a few vehicles lined up. So I have never tried Costco gas. One of these days I might get to try their gas @ cheaper than what I been paying @ Chevron.
I generally use Chevron, then Shell once in awhile - rare occasions it's whatever else.
A couple times I used the gas on base (military retired) and it seems I didn't get the mileage, but it might have been just me.

My V10 drinks 25-30 gallons a week, so the 20-30 cent/gallon savings add up. I get Costco gas most if the time and my truck runs fine on it. I've tracked every fill-up for 18+ months and haven't seen a differenct in MPG or felt a difference in performance.

I use some of the money I save to buy Techron at Costco (about half price) and just a few bottles every couple of months.

I run Costco gas all in all my vehicles. 93 in my MS3 and regular in the others and never noticed any fall off from Shell products. It is fresh, they maintain the traditional $.20 spread between 93 and 87, the are as low or lower than other prices, plus you get 3% back.

Why use any thing else?

Costco gas in my area is lower than other by about 8-15 cents a gallon, but the lines are very long sometimes more than 10-12 cars in each line. The saving over other stations is not much for me because I have Mastercard with 5% cash back, by my calculation I would save about $1 per fill up but I have to wait anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.

Saving $1 with waiting time of 15 minutes or more is not worth it.

When I put Costco Gas in my Saturn, it made the engine sputter. Haven't used it since. I use Exxon whenever I can.

how is costco gas at the two costcos in livonia? I heard it wwas on par with 76 which is made by chevron
and how does costco gas compare with shell?
on a side note, does this site do lawn mower oil or is it just for cars? where can you get a 5 quart jug of sae 30 oil for a lawn mower?

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1411014/

And what about the costco selling the chevron techrons for cheap (it's not pro gard, is it?)

i heard costco depends on the bidder and it varies by location but the pump adversises that it's 5x the federal minimum regardless of where it's getting the gas from but that it's cocono phillips oil. i like shell and i get shell fuel rewards as well as kroger discounts on shell, so shell would be something i'd compare it to. bp is my backup. i have a bp rewards card (they changed it, it was 20 gallons, now its all the time, apparently)

i don't have any fuel credit cards, just rewards cards where amounts are taken off per fill up

but is the costco in livonia (2) and ann arbor made by cocono phillips or is it different in michigan and how does it compare to sams' club gas?

sams' club gas apparently isn't top tier, but is it any good? Thanks.
