"Correct" way to repair thin wood to accept screw?

Looks good. I'm curious about how the epoxy will work. I have never used it in wood, I may do some tests on scrap wood to see how it works. hopefully it halts what looks like a split above the dowel.

If you have a dremel, that might work for cutting the oak dowels in the door hinge.
 
I used a flush cut Japanese saw. These things are pretty great.

I barely sliced my finger, was essentially a shallow paper cut. The cuts are that fine, blades are flexible.

The epoxy soaks readily into the wood. Both pine and oak repairs. Need to add excess for these jobs because of that.

After cutting off, here's the oak:

 
Looks great, interesting that the epoxy soaked in, sounds like what you needed. I will have to try some on my next repair job. ( I fix stuff for people at work, loose joints, old pic frames etc).

A good flush cut saw is great isn't it!! I didn't know if you were going to get one. A good one is so handy for wood work.
