I was attempting to change the thermostat in my wife's 1997 Lumina over the weekend and was unable to remove the upper rad hose from the thermostat housing area. I pulled and pulled, didn't want to tear the hose. While I was trying to remove the hose, I must have loosened it abit or made a very small hole near the housing, so it is leaking a little. The clamp can't go any tighter, so I put outdoor silicone sealant in the area of the leak and it stopped. Would those GM coolant sealant tabs help?

Did you try sliding a small flat screw driver between the hose and the themo housing? Something has to break that seal, it can be a very strong bond.

I'd just replace the hose and the clamp.

I always try to twist the hose to break the inevitable bond between hose and fitting. In worst cases, you may have to split the hose and replace it.

Once you get the hose off, clean and polish the fitting insert w/ a brass wire brush to remove corrosion. If severely pitted, I use non-hardening gasket sealant to coat the insert. The seal should occur between the upset end and hose ID. If you have a severe pit or groove on the upset end, it will not seal.

good luck
