Considering going back to dino oil

Huh? Someone is in love with their oil. I think we need proof of increased mpg before you can continue to use that justification.

This site has gone mad. No wonder I visit less.

I'm comfortable with 10K ocis and off the shelf synthetics. About 2 ocis a year and engine stays very clean (in my case).
If I was nervous about keeping ocis down to 5K and changing every other month I would use dino.

I did go back to Dino QS 5-30 on my 2006 Chev. work truck (V6). I was using M1, but I cannot bring myself not to change oil every 4k or 5k, so I concluded that it wasn't worth running the M1 for those change intervals. I did this several thousand miles ago, I am not a t 92.5K, and I have seen no problems, as of yet. Time will tell the outcome I guess, but I'm betting the QS 5-30 will hold this motor together for as long as the rest of the truck lasts.

You know what they say... repeat the same thing over and over and eventually you will believe in it.

who says its better?
i see engines all day long and i dont have any proof that syn makes engines last longer... With the great dino oil that is out there most rated the same as syn i dont know..,. I did however use ultra and have seen the cleaning ability and it was amazing... I wont buy that oil anymore because of the price but it did work...
We only rebuild engines and i believe if you change oil every 5000 miles with anything sm or sn your engine will outlast the car

I agree that any dino SM or SN will do 5-6k OCI without any problem for most engines, but there are some engines need synthetic such as Acura RDX, most German engines with long OCI up to 13-15k miles, newer Toyota engines with 10k OCI.

It's not possible for me to use dino in my E430 if I do 12-15k OCI as indicated by the FSS(Flexible Service System), MB oil monitoring system. If I'm crazy enough to use dino then I have to reduce the OCI to half to avoid sludge.

Down here, the engine and the car outlast the transmission. If you are going for 500,000,best shot is to get a manual trans. Unfortumately, elbow tendonitis from too many,Big Time,Bassfishing hooksets, caused be to have to buy an automatic last time. Figure I'll be lucky to make 200,000 on the trans. I figure the lower the engine compartment heat, the longer my trans may last. I'm switching over to DW-1 ATF next D and F and maybe that reduces trans temp a tic or 2. I actually got fractionally better mpg when I changed to syn. IMO It doesn't cost me anything, net of the mpg gain to run synthetic oil,and I'm saving a few tics in underhood temperature.

Survey shows and has for decades that automatics need less repairs then manual transmission. Yes there are auto out there that were failure prone but as a general rule they go longer then manuals before being cracked open.

I have broken down engines that have only used synthetic their entire lifecycle and they are not as clean and wearfree as you would hope.

Synthetic does not perform miracles and totally stop wear and deposits in the lifter valleys and oil pan.

I said that there were automatics that were/are failure prone. But traditional they go loner between repairs then manuals. There are troublesome manual shifts out there. Manual shifts actually have bearing issues, shift fork issues etc. Then there are clutch's.

100k on my Honda automatic, no problems so far.

To be honest, there is NO difference in MPG, smoothness, noise, or anything else.

Mostly true until you got to "or anything else". There are NO dino oils that can match a synthetic for ultimate cold start performance and extreme heat. In other words - you get a safety net with Syn oil that cannot be had with Dino. Today's Dinos are excellent and more than most people will need...however syn lubes simply outperform in the extremes where some people may need it. The cost difference is not that much that when you extend the drain you can make up the price difference sometimes.

what did you notice after using Ultra ? considering for longer OCI's.
