For the price and hassle of a UOA, why wouldn't you just change it?

Now you're talking my kind of vehicle.

But that argument can easily and more rationaly be reversed.

If its a newish car with lots of engine life left which you'll dump before its 10 years old, it hardly matters what you do to it, unless you suffer from mechanical sympathy and/or want to do the decent thing by the next owner.

OTOH, if its on its last legs, you might want to go easy on it to prolong its life as long as possible.

My car is pretty clearly in the latter category, but I still havn't changed the oil for 5 years because I don't think it needs it. If I did, I would. Oil isn't as cheap here as in the US, but it still isn't very expensive, and I have about 3 oil changes worth in my stockpile.

I have older farm equipment with 20 year oil in it - it's just fine.

We talked all about this yesterday:

And many times before. But that link seems to be about a Nintendo game console which I wouldn't have any interest in talking about even once.
