Compression Barbed fittings

Hello..

I am planning on installing a remote filter mount and cooler for the transmission on my Ranger and need to connect steel lines to rubber hoses. I have seen these fittings in posts on several sites but nobody had mentioned how well they have performed over the long term and if they are prone to leaking. Was wondering if anyone who has used them can chime in and let me know if they are ok to use or if I should just flare the lines.

They work great and they don't leak. I have flared the lines as well, and that won't leak either. Use double hose clamps or fuel injection clamps (as others have recommended)
 
Nuttin' bad to say about them at all. Just happens that I have barbs and hoses on all of my current installations. So, it's basically cut and clamp

Just make sure the hose is supported where it connects to the barb or the barb may break off after a while due to work hardening from flexing. I recently had this happen on my bypass using brass barb fittings.
 
Yeah, that aren't well rated for tensile stretch nor vibration (like if you left some hose swinging in the breeze on a rough idle worked SBC)
 
I love compression fittings, and we use them (stainless ones) to hold hydrogen at 3000psi leak free.

There's another fatigue point with them also, and it's where the olive crimps the pipe creates a notch stress riser, and also acts as the fulcrum for the flexing of the pipe they are clamped onto.

Seen many pipes in vibrating type service crack at the olive grip point.

Honestly I think you'll be OK, but there is another thing to think about.
 
Found that they make fittings that go into the radiator of my Ranger so I went that route instead of cutting the lines.
