Commuting in a "bro truck" /rant

He does not use his truck for "truck things" so he could own a really nice car for the money he spends on repairs. He has been through a few transmissions, major engine and suspension work, etc. For all the money he spent he could be in a really nice BMW M5 or other car that at the end of the day still looks nice and doesn't handle like a brick. His truck is actually uncomfortable to ride in the suspension is so stiff and the performance built transmission has hard jarring shifts.

Your words are my thoughts exactly. Such waste!

I see Olas and Surfstar are righteously annoyed! I love how this truck runs - pulled three freeze-kill tree stumps out of my front yard with it a couple weeks ago. Gets 20+ mpg unloaded on the highway at 70mph. Tops out around 120mph, and gets there in a hurry. Makes about 700ftlb. torque and will pull a house down. yes, it is totally badarse. OBTW, I'm 57 years old. Wouldn't you love to have a machine like this? Jealous?

Uber that is an awesome truck and tastefully modified. I wouldn't mind having a long bed cummins like that!

Nice truck! I think the consensus is that most people aren't hating on the truck, but the drivers. I'm assuming that since you are 57 years old you don't drive over medians, purposefully cut off smaller cars or run them off the road, blow smoke at other drivers, and ruin other people's property with your truck.

Well, no - but it does have 35" tires, belches black smoke with heavy throttle until it's up on the turbo, and I have been known to drive it to work from time-to-time.

I believe the mistake here is equating a thing with a person. There are plenty of dumbarses out there doing stupid stuff in other type vehicles as well

This is the sort of thing that i shake my head at every time i see one.

35" tires on an HD truck is just fine, and very appropriate if you do some off road driving.

It's an exaggerated, more extreme version of the same concept: Awesome mega-pickup-truck. I don't like the chrome wheels, but whatever - no biggie. To each his own.

The trucks that I see go off road don't have those fancy wheels. They have 16 or 17'' wheels with not-Nitto tires.

I could use a truck for house work and hauling my Jeep. Something like this would be pretty much ideal and I would love to have something like This and even that is expensive!

But obviously dropping $36K on a DD is not ideal for me. So I'll have something cheap from CL

I almost saw a bro dozer today. Chevy, 6-8 inch lift, tires were only 35-36 but were wide all terrain tread and the wheels were wider than tires. Only one problem. It was pulling 7K lb capacity trailer in a work situation.

It helps when tree trimming, but only if you can drive/park it in the front lawn.

Man you guys would have a field day here in Corpus Christi TX!! Lifted diesels are a dime a dozen. What gets me is that not only are they lifted high but it puts the headlights about 4 to 5 feet off the ground. Then they put those intensely bright (illegal) HID kits in and on the fog lights as well. I am honestly blinded on a dark country road when one of these trucks is approaching.

On the rx7's fromt he 80s, Removing a cat literally improves power by 10%. Trading the restrictive exhaust manifold for a header which deletes all 3 cats increases power by around 20% and in my experience increased fuel economy from around 20 mpg to about 27 mpg freeway. Feel free to do that all day long in my book. Using less gas sounds like it reduces some of the harm done by not letting a cat do its job.

It's a tradeoff. The cat reduces NOx and unburnt HC's, but as you point out, decreased CO2. I know older cars do well with removal of cats but I want to say after a certain point in time the cat became less of a problem--retuning the ECU to cut fuel increases mpg, but the cat is then along for the ride, not doing much (not kept warm enough) but not causing issues. Your case sounds like a good trade to me, but I'm not sure about more modern vehicles.

Now ripping emissions stuff off diesels has been a different game. It's like the 70's all over again. Different thread though.

Doesn't matter. Gas or diesel, tampering or disabling emissions equipment is against Federal Law. But not enough people do it to significantly effect air quality or to arouse the EPA into forming a Gestapo-style hit squad to aggressively seek out the "criminals".

When I see trucks like this, I wonder why they even have wheelwells.

What is more silly looking ?

These jacked up trucks with glitter and glam.... or the silly tattooes these idiot truck owners have all over their arms, neck, chest ?

Screams: I have mental issues and need attention I never got as a young child....

Personally don't care what others drive.. but does give me a chuckle. Grew up on a farm, these pretty trucks would be useless in that regard. Is fun to pull up next to one in the RV. It's about a high as most 4x4's... Just want to tell them I bet I paid less for a house on wheels and it's half way functional. It probably has seen more dirt and mud to.
