Coming to a complete stop at a stop sign

My dad used to take a short cut through a parking lot so he could miss a stop sign. He got 2 tickets in a week! Its illegal in California to circumvent a stop sign!

I haven't heard "fuzz" in years. I had to laugh.

Thanks for that.

Reminds me back when radar dectectors were called Fuzzbusters.

If I think I will get stuck in the snow then I will roll it. Also, in heavy traffic through residential neighborhoods I think it's kind of unnecessary to come to a complete stop. Like during rush hour when there is a 3+ car line at a four way stop.

The sign says "STOP." It doesn't say "STOP....unless it's early in the morning and traffic is light." If you come upon a stop sign, freakin STOP!

Were you or your dog ever in danger of being hit?

If you were in my neighborhood, I'd have a visual on you way before the stop-sign and be able to determine whether I needed to stop to let you cross or not. If I see that you're nowhere near the intersection, my rolling through a stop-sign affects you not at all...

Not worth a ticket from a local yocal, smokey bear,or city kitty (since we are using 70's cb terms). Don't want to see the bubble gum machines light up.

If my "neighborhood" was a rural road, then I'd stop completely. Local yocal cop used to terrorize a small fishing village in DE where I'd visit my gramma. In that area, you did the EXACT speed limit and stopped at every yellow light and stop sign. Well, that was until he got canned for taking naps in his patrol car and things relaxed a bit!

I've never heard of a cop hanging out in a suburban neighborhood, however.

Locally they are also known as "the five-oh" "black and whites" or if it is the CHP "chippys"

There is so little wasted time by completely stopping, in the end, it makes no practical difference. So I generally try to stop completely before the line. The risk-reward ratio is unfavorable on this one.

As we all know, much time can be saved in other ways

Especially for drivers like me who put on a lot of highway miles.

Same here, regardless of the hour of the day or night.

My brother on the other hand blows right on through EVERY single stop sign, and does not even ever make a full stop to right turn at lights.
I have NO IDEA HOW he still has a license, since his (total LACK OF) luck while exercising his 'degenerate' gambling problem does not
explain away him not being locked up for his driving.

(I am also afraid to drive in his car with him, as he refuses to fix his pulsating brakes, and consistnetly blasts right up to the bumper of the car in front of him, and sits there forever right on their tail.

That's one of the most idiotic posts I have ever seen here.

The location of the dog was pure and complete 100% coincidence and has NOTHING to do with where a stop sign is located and how it is observed.

I almost always make a full stop, but I do think slowing to a very low speed and rolling a stop sign is sometimes okay/reasonable.

I did get caught doing it once, but not pulled over. Cop rolled down his window and yelled at me to not do that.

What I don't get are people who blow through stop signs at full speed...seems to be happening more in my neighborhood at one particular stop sign. Ironically it's on a road leading to a school, and I think most offenders are parents of students there. I'm talking 35+ MPH through the intersection on a 25 MPH street. Today a guy in a Kia Sedona on another street saw me approaching the 5 way stop at roughly the same pace and his response was to gun it! He had to be doing 40 through the stop sign...just crazy.

What about this example:

Have you guys ever seen those who drive up to a stop-sign, seemingly with blinder on, then quickly look left and right only AFTER stopping, then jet off? I would say this is way less safe than my practice of literally surveying my surroundings half a dozen times or more as I APPROACH the intersection, then roll through it only after I'm satisfied that it's safe to do so.

It seems that this conversation would be better-served revolving around safe drivers and unsafe drivers, not specific practices. Throwing the fuzz into the equation completely changes the math, of course, regardless of how safe you are. As far as the fuzz is concerned, you can be drunk and oblivious to your surroundings, so long as you come to a full stop prior to commencing through the intersection.

2-5mph roll if no one is around and I can see like on back country roads. Otherwise I come to a compelete stop in residential areas or if visibility for whatever reason is reduced/blocked.
