Clog resistant outdoor drain

The drain under my back porch would clog with debris.
The hardware cloth, in use for several years, catches debris with a gradual rise in water level instead of clogging all at once.
I just replaced the old grate, shown to the side, with one that flows better.

The white part is at grade and the mesh stands above? They make sink drain extenders like that for the food industry.

I have a task using much the same material to restore my grass catcher frame as the screening finally gave out.
What I need are hog ring pliers (I think).
