Someone said it works really well. Spray on whatever glass cleaner and wipe with newspaper.

Anyone ever tried it and does it work? Do you just wad up the paper and wipe away?

Works for me. Don't use newspaper with color ink, just black. Color ink streaks and leaves a mess.

That's an old skool technique and has been supplanted by new technologies. I think people used to use newspaper instead of paper towels because newspaper did not lint. Also, newsprint ink was solvent based (kerosene) which is a good cleaner. Nowadays newsprint ink is water or soy based, so the advantages of using newspaper are mostly in the past.

Modern microfiber technology allows for far superior glass cleaning results, without the mess on your hands. Buy a couple of waffle weave glass cleaning towels, care for them separately and they'll give you superior glass cleaning performance.

I agree with bretfraz. This is old school. Years ago when people didn't have alot of money, they created some really good methods for cleaning. White vinager/water mix and newspapers were used to clean windows. I remember my dad telling me this when I was a boy that, his dad used it, and so on and so on! My dad was born in 1913 so, you can get an idea of how far back that people were using this cleaning method. I beleive it's still OK today, just not popular.

I have yet to find a glass cleaning liquid that does better than hot water (as hot as you can stand) and a 100% cotton towel. Just make sure that the towel isn't a lint shedder.

I use winter washer fluid (it has alcohol in it) and a microfiber towel. Costco has packs of yellow microfiber towels and they're great!

Very old school, and it works. Normally, the old school pros would make a dilute vinegar solution, with a much smaller portion of dishwasher liquid soap. Use the newspaper to scrub and dry the glass, the newsprint creates a "polishing" agent.

These days, I use plain water and Sam's Club blue microfiber towels. Works as well as any solution with normal towels.

I too agree with bretfraz. The only information he missed is that the old black ink was also a fine abrasive, which helps cleaning. Soy-based inks have no abrasive character.

I've used Stoner's with waffle weave microfiber, plain old cheap microfiber and with newspaper. They all work about the same.

I have used RainX (Orange in the Gallon Jug) on all my windows, including the house. What happens is that with prolonged use the stuff keeps working better it repels dirt somewhat, beads up and is a breeze to clean.

I also use it to wipe down my engine, alloy wheels, and door jambs..I love the stuff. I have spray bottles of it everywhere.

old school, but still works. microfiber and windex works great now.
I Zaino the windows, after which claning is a breeze.

I'm also a fan of Stoner's (also works great on eyeglasses) and a bath or microfiber towel. I also rmember the old days here in the midwest where every station had a bucket of water and an old corn cob (yes a corn cob, shelled of course} to scrub off the bugs on your windshield. Gas stations even did oil changes and tune-ups back then also. Oh for the good old days and gas at .18 cents a gallon. Gone forever.
