I was thinking of using a Liqui Moly diesel purge, which is for cleaning the injection system and poured directly into the fuel filter or sucked up the fuel line.
Anyone used a direct feel diesel system cleaner before and do they help with spray pattern performance etc.

LM Diesel Purge is excellent stuff and works the best as you described - running it pure & uncut through the fuel system. It has drastically improved throttle response and cleared up smoke in several cars I've run it in and most TDI gurus I've spoken to have reported similar gains.

On TDIs we typically disconnect the fuel filter (looping the lines if the car is equipped with a lift pump) and running additional PEX tubing directly into the can of Diesel Purge. Typically takes 15 - 20 minutes to run it low enough before the lines start sucking air.

The injectors seem good, but I will be doing a 200K main service early next year and that means a new cam belt, EGR clean and fuel filter seals, so I was wondering if I should run some cleaner through the injectors.

Ever thought of using some semi synth 2 stroke oil.

I have used it several times and noted slight improvement, my old Mondeo tdci in particular was quite a bit quieter on tickover, noted by a mate that didn't know I was experimenting with it.

I don't think you will save fuel or get much performance benefit but is feel it will do a half decent job of keeping the injection system protected.

It might even clean it up a little and as it is meant to be burned and lubricate a 2 stroke engine whilst it does so then surely it can't hurt?

with that mileage... depending on the diesel engine & injection system... an injector rebuild with new nozzles would yield better results, and then stay on top of the diesel fuel and cleaners
