Here goes that $74 an hour wage again. It is $28.71 for a seniority auto line worker. Slightly more for a skilled trades employee. The low seniority "tier 2" workers make under $14 and hour. True - if you add benefits costs the hourly figure it will raise it but not to $74/hr. People always use these inflated costs when discussing autoworker pay but always compare to to the base (no benefit) pay of other industries.

But, yes your overall point on cheap labor overseas is taken. Lucky though, these cheap wages are slowly increasing so it will not always be best to utilize it. Also, Ford and GM are finally bringing work back to the USA. All good with that!

I wonder if Walmart will start selling them?

BMW is suing them in Europe, they can't actually export those vehicles without getting sued.

My father worked in IBEW Local 3 in New York City for 25 years or so before i moved away all across the USA. Climbed all the ranks, paid all the dues (which AFAIK is where that expression came from.) A real true blue "Union man." His wages and earnings were WAAY high. Furloughs, Health insurance for his family, it was great.

I would believe the inflated number in a heartbeat. So would anyone else that knows a well-paid Union member.

So you are saying its more like $50 an hour? Much better. (sarcasm.) Also, adjust it for inflation.

Not that there is anything against higher wages, but its not everybody that gets that..........................

I also want to thank you for your agreement on the other point. I would agree with you too. I missed that at first.

Yeah right how stupid are we….Close the doors before we have nothing left here and we are poorer than the least third world country ! Make made in the USA mean something again and rebuild our manufacturing for American Citizens by American Citizens so our child will have a future before the present actions of our trade agreements bury all americans and our “Gloden Waves Of Crain become RICE PATTIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I hear ya. Just for the record, I'm from a GM family...hourly and salary. I am salary and beings I work in a plant I kinda know what everybody makes and an hourly line worker isn't making $74/hr with benefits...that is media misinformation.

Hey, better idea..since you are in the Dallas area, why not come to my plant and I will take you a personal tour?

How about an AC Ace copy stuffed with a Ford 289 copy?
Oh, wait, that's been done.

It looks like they only copied the grille, headlights, and somewhat the taillights. The rest of the truck doesn't look like it was directly lifted from an existing model. It does look very generic though. The doors look a little like the VW Robust, which isn't in production yet and won't be sold in the US.

I don't understand the obsession China has with making shameless knockoffs that have obvious corner cutting. There's nothing prestigious about that. So they can manufacture stuff, good for them. They won't enter the first world until they can design it.

My 2008 Sonata's curb weight is 3494 LBS. That heavy enough? For comparison, the Camry is 3263, and the Accord is 3567LBS in those same years.

2001 Hyundai XG300 weighs about 3650lbs. Similar year Buick LeSabre is nearly 100lbs lighter.

I must have missed the part where I can walk into Ace or Ikea or Target or Home Depot or Lowes and buy lots of cheap, Chinese junk if that's what the Walmart comments are insinuating.

That's part of the same BITOG software widget that recommends a Crown Victoria to every person looking for recommendations for a new car, regardless of their needs, or mentions intake manifold gasket leaks in every thread about GM vehicles. Hmmm, this thread mentions the Silverado and Colorado trucks; I'm surprised there has been no mention of intake manifold gaskets. Is the software broken?

The manufacturer has R&D offices in Italy. They are also thinking about building a factory in Slovakia.

This is how you start. First, you assemble from kits. then you slowly make the components yourself. then you design your own by copying other makes. Then you design original stuff.

+1

Anyone remember pirate NES cartridges as a kid? The friend with the "100 in 1" game, with maybe 25 games before odd menu tricks with nothing past the second screen but same games with different colors?

OT

I have a 4-in-1 Gameboy cartridge that my buddy brought back from Hong Kong for me 20 years ago.

He was at an electronics store and watched one of the locals talking with the guy behind the counter. Money was exchanged and the guy behind the counter looks around for cops. Then ducks behind the counter and produces the box.

My buddy tries the same thing and the guy behind the counter denies he has any game carts. My buddy shows him a CA drivers license and a SS card and the dude relaxes a bit. Again, money was exchanged and TWO game carts are produced.

The cartridge and its plastic storage case look exactly like genie Nintendo.....but it's unmarked. The box is cheesy with just a sticker on it showing four screen shots of the games. The game cart works flawlessly too. Just switch off/on to toggle between the four games.
