They put the timing chain in wrong and ruined the engine. I don't care how old it is. They ruined it they need to make me happy. They have been unable to fix it. Can't sell it its not driveable.

And a car should last longer than 64k miles without all these major problems.

Nice callous comment above^^^very compassionate.

Typical stealership story.

This guy would be thrilled if they kept his car two days and delivered it back to him running like a gem.

But instead he gets the runaround, baloney, and [censored] work, too.

Many times the stories we hear are not about bad cars but about sloppy dealers.

Wasn't trying to be "callous." Just realistic. And since you don't read well, I did say the series of events was unfortunate. If they buy it back, good for the OP, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Unfortunately I had almost the exact same problem with a Honda in 2001. So this can happen with most any brand. But it seems quality has gone down with all brands.

yep, you're a real pillar of compassionate understanding for sure. You definitely write better than most read, at least in your own world.

He bought a car with a 100k mile warranty. He has a right to expect reasonably good service.

We all kind of know what he's already getting, eh?

Could you give the sequence of events? I am now confused. Why did other dealer replace timing chain? Could you document all the steps since miles 0 on this vehicle? You would probably need to do that to make the case anyway.

yeah i'm a bit confused too about this timing chain thing also, more info please so we can continue to conjecture and judge needlessly

Actually, I have found that Hyundai and Kia have actually started to make good cars, I thought they never would.

But I agree that many new cars are declining in quality.

If they fight you on this, I've lost all faith in the company.

Get ready, they are fighting. More details later....

Its offical GM said live with it. Until there is a hole in the block they said dont call again. Sad Sad...

No manufacturer is going to buy back a 4 year old car. I am still confused on what the car needs in order to repair it. What is the latest update from the dealer? I'd be there everyday for an update in person with the service writer and technician, being as friendly and positive as I could. You're at the mercy of the warranty - and lucky to have it!

There is a thing called a "lemon law". The first dealer that tried to fix it made a mistake and now the car sounds like a diesel. Very very bad valve clatter.

GM will not let the 2nd dealer take the head off to find out what is wrong. Seems to GM that I should have bought a diesel because it would be quiter than this car. You can hear the noise 50ft away!

And this is only the first major problem in a short period of time. This is about the third major problem. If they could fix it I would be fine but its not a diesel! so...

And this is not warrenty anyone, its a mistake by the first dealer that ruined the engine.

1.) First dealer trying not to own up to mistake and cost themselves $$$
2.) 2nd dealer trying to help but GM stopping them.
3.) GM saving themselves $$
4.) Me otta luck with a unsaleable car.

Might get the state attorneys general office or a consumer advocacy office involved for potential warranty fraud by the first dealer? After all, they botched the warranty fix and then tried to fleece you for more money to right their mistake. Oftentimes a inquiry from a regulator with some muscle persuades the recalcitrant party to hasten fixing the issue the right way instead of sweeping it under the rug. That first dealer is simply hoping you go away instead of fighting.

GM corporate really doesn't have a dog in this fight aside from having produced a faulty product and paying for the warranty bill. As far as they're concerned, they paid to have it fixed, end of story. It's between you and the first dealer now.

GM still has a large problem with their dealers. Quite a few of them are truly horrible in servicing the cars they sell, and GM isn't doing enough to crack down on the bad ones who are giving a bad reputation to the whole corporation.

I've got stories good and bad about my experiences with simple warranty issues, but this isn't the time or place to relate them. Excellent techs and service writers make for excellent experiences. GM needs better standards for service writers. I'll leave it there.

Was that at the second dealer, or the first dealer that botched the fix?

If the first dealer botched the job, then *he* is on the hook to fix it. GM is not going to reimburse him!

We are all missing something here or you have not been able to put the sequence of events correctly for us to understand :-(
