I bought a 2011 Chevy Silverado in March. I changed the oil about 3500 miles ago using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. I have 6 quarts of Chevron Supreme 5w30 that I would like to use. Would it really hurt to use a oil that is not Dexos certified for one oil change? Thanks

Doesn't your truck have an OLM? What interval does it usually suggest?

The Chevron should be OK for one OCI. But don't do it again :P

Walmart has a great deal on Pennzoil Dexos Blend for like $17 a jug.

Whelp, the Silverado is not turbo, and Chevron Supreme is an excellent oil. I personally would not think twice.

Would he not need to provide documentation(receipts) to the dealership showing he did his own oil changes if there ever is a warranty claim? If they see that a non-approved oil was used, wont they then deny the claim? I'm honestly not sure, I am just asking, I have not had a chance to buy a vehicle in warranty yet lol.

Just keep a service log and write down the oil as Havoline Synthetic Blend (Dexos approved). It's a Chevron oil with a similar additive chemistry.

Chevron Oil- Been using it now for a few OCI's. Very impressed by this oil. It's totally quieted the HLA clateer that many Miata's have. Use it!!!
