Dear BITOG members:

I own a Ford Crown Victoria 2009 that now I don't drive for long periods of up to 2 weeks and when I do I drive it for about 140km (~80 miles)then it is back to its 2 weeks slumber.

The oil I use is Castrol dino 10w30. The mileage of each change is 8000km (5000 miles) as per the local dealer's recommendation but they denied the need to do it in a time interval basis.

The question is; how often, in time basis, do I have to change the oil given my situation?

The last time I changed the oil was 3 months ago and now the car hasn't finished 3000km (1875 miles :)).

You should have no problem going 1 year or more to get your 5000 miles. Your trips are plenty long enough and your climate hot enough to not necessitate the need to shorten the interval based on time.

ive also always wondered this in regards to my fairmont. it sees about 3000 miles a year, so i dont change it by time, or mileage. i change it by season. thin oil in the winter, and a little bit thicker oil in the summer..

but ive wondered, if i didnt do this, what would be the most amount of time you would leave a batch of oil in your crankcase?
