I wish we could get back to more meaningful discussions here.

This is a forum, where a huge variety of subjects are discussed. If you don't like the topic, don't click.

meaningless comments add nothing as well, so why perpetuate the "problem"?

Meaningless posts add nothing. Spend some time reading older posts that required a thing called thought and then you'll understand.

I've been reading this forum for years so drop your asinine "been here longer" arrogance.

Again, if you don't like the topic, don't read it. Or better yet, provide better content. This isn't rocket science.

Not arrogance brother, just sick of stupidity.

LOL, yeah it's not rocket science. Which doesn't require another thread on this beaten to death topic.
Merkava knows this. He's just turned into troll mode.

Kind`ve like changing shampoos every few weeks or so to get rid of the buildup in your hair. Definitely make sense.

That's the wonderful part of living in the USA...the OP is able to care and express such and you, zaedock, are allowed to needlessly express displeasure for such. Kinda reminds me of the whole sensorship debate. If you don't wanna see or hear it, then change the channel. (or don't read the thread and chime in.)

On my previous vehicle, I stuck with Mobil 1 and Pennz Plat. I had done a UOA on the Platinum and it seemed to be holding up well for my vehicle and my driving habits. I've stuck with those two for about the past 140k miles, depending on price. This vehicle has been relegated to second vehicle status and with its current mileage, I use "whatever". It currently has SuperTech. Next will be the Napa 5w/30 Synthetic bought on sale.

My "new" vehicle, 2009 Chrysler T&C, uses 1qt/1k miles. It currently has Mobil 1. I will be trying Valvoline MaxLife next, followed by a name brand conventional (PYB), to see if anything reduces the consumption. If not, I will pick either a cheap synthetic (SuperTech or QSUD) or a name brand conventional and stick with that for the life of the vehicle.

I have a 2008 T&C with the 3.8.

I was able to cut consumption from 1qt/1000mi to about half that by changing out the PCV valve, but I'm still trying to find the sweet spot for oil.

So far I've tried MS5k, ST Synthetic, and VWB. They all consumed equally.

Needlessly express? The only thing needless is this thread. It used to be a forum of fact and knowledge. It's too bad you guys don't know what it used to be like here.

And for the record regarding this topic, I don't give a mouse's hairy left testicle what lubricant I'm putting in my cars provided said lubricant meet any and all requirements set forth by the manufacturer of my car. My sig says QSGB. haven't been on here or updated that in months. Now have Mobil super syn 0-20 and 5-30 in my cars respectively...with confidence. Prior to that it was ST from wally in both(convenience sake in a pinch). So what? Well it seems to me that just about any one interested in gleening info from this site would want to know such things from layman. what are we using? why? when are we using it? is it detrimental? beneficial? or is it just simply overzealous behavior from a bunch of people who like to maintain their own vehicles from time to time? And may be good at it? while saving their hard earned cash and instilling a sense of accomplishment in themselves. why? who cares? the answer is im guessing 99 and 44/100ths percent of the members here.

I buy whatever synthetic that is on sale. Not brand loyal. As far as the meaningless topic comment, I have been on this board for years, but do not post a whole lot. When you stop and think about it, you could just have a search function and close the rest of the forums down as most everything brought up has been discussed at one time or the other. But the purpose of forums is for general discussion for everybody irregardless of what anyone else would like to think. If the topic is meaningless for you, just go on to another topic. Its just an oil forum open to anyone with any question, and that is what makes it enjoyable for me and probably lots of others.

Amen, Old Timer. Enjoy everyone's insight and posts. Hope your getting some rain.

It was once said there is merit to more reading less posting.

2 x 10 year plus members with 114 posts between them to come and respond in this thread definitely means something to me eg everyone is entitled have say.

I believe there is some merit to switching oil brands at every other oil change, but that in the long-run, the body or other items will fall apart before the engine will.

My new Subaru Outback gets Mobil 1 5w30 at the dealer and I do an LOF change in-between with Pennzoil Ultra.

My Kia Sorento went almost 100,000 miles on Amsoil 0W-30 and nothing else. Lately, I've switched it to Pennzoil Ultra or a Caterham Blend of 20 and 40-weight synthetics.

Doubt that either vehicle will get any more or less use from our family due to alternating or staying with the same oil brand for each OCI.
