They are unquestionably superior in longevity but, IMHO, sealants now are so good that I'm not ready to jump yet. I think in 2 years we'll see the coating formulas improve to be easier to apply, cheaper, and maybe even enhance shine which they don't really do now. At that point it will be a no-brainer.

I have been detailing for awhile. Well, actually, I can't anymore. But, when I did detail, it wasn't my main money maker. And, I know any good finish is all in the prep work. Is there anything different in the prep work before you apply ceramic coatings as opposed to applying a sealant?
 
It's up to the person doing the work. Either way you're going to see the underlying finish. With a coating you're stuck with whatever condition the finish is in for years until the coating wears off unless you strip it sooner. With a sealant, same thing, but your opportunities to correct the underlying finish are more frequent and easier to come by.
