This from CBS News, a story on the safest cars (according to the IIHS) for 2016.

Anyone want to point out their mistake(s)? Questionable statement in red.

Both the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are made in the US.

The Tesla Model X is the safest car ever tested I don't see it on the list, same with the Model S.

Toyota builds Camrys in Kentucky. Last I checked that was in the USA. If a CBS hack told me the sun was out I'd have to look out a window.

I heard this in the background as we were drinking a nice Italian red, making dinner and talking about the day.
You're right, since AFAIK, virtually every Honda Accord sold in this country is made in Ohio, just as an example.
As an Italian company, I don't think that Chrysler qualifies as any more American than Honda, either.
The impact tests may have some meaning, but the more important results will be found in the serious and fatal injury rates for those vehicles on the road.
Those figures are available as well.
Google is your friend in this.

I don't know how I feel about the IIHs ranking system.

One one hand, I like that they go further in the actual crash testing than NHTSA currently does.

However, their new ranking system pretty much precludes *any* vehicle without an available auto-braking collision mitigation system from obtaining a Top Safety Pick Plus rating.

That's the part that rubs me though: These systems are optional. How does a system make an entire vehicle model safer just by being an available option? It just seems kind of disingenious of the IIHS to not highlight that in order to be Top Safety Pick Plus rated vehicle, it MUST have the optional system installed.

CBS is so freaking clueless on this, I'm surprised you didn't spit a mouthful of that red wine across the room.

Right... the stupid rule that we can't delete posts.

Then why is there a delete post button? Can't we get rid of it?

Dumbest rule on this whole site.

"Chrysler's (FCAU) 200 is the only vehicle from a Detroit-based brand to get a Top Safety Pick Plus award."

Does anyone read anymore?

Subaru has been not only building Subarus (Legacy and Outback..soon to be Impreza and 7 passenger crossover) in Indiana, but also Camrys for Totota since 2007 (set to stop Toyota production when expanded Toyota plant in Kentucky comes online next year)

One problem. Apparently, you don't read either. That's not what we're discussing.

Here's what we're discussing...

The laughable thing about many domestic brands are made in Mexico.

Maybe assembled in Mexico of US and other parts. We've been through this sooo many times.

I did read it but focused on the wrong sentence for the purpose of this CBS bashing discussion. Let the bashing continue...

There have been a number of motorists killed in NH riding in Subarus this year.Wonder if they had believed all the "My Subaru saved my life" commercial drivel before their crashes came. Frankly there is no 100% safe car....none.No car can be 100% safe in all kinds of impacts/rollovers/etc.
