I don't know anyone on this site that does creat their own blends that thinks they are "smarter than the company themselves".
Regarding this blend. Mobil doesn't sell their AFE 0W-30 in Canada so if one wants a Mobil 0W-30 they have no choice (short of importing some AFE 0W-30) than blending their own version.
As has been mentioned previously, Mobil have given their "blessing" to this blend. Having said that I think this blend offers a number of advantages over the M1's AFE 0W-30.
Many formulators, particularly of the boutique variety actually encourage the blending of their various oil grades to "fine tune" an oil to one's unique requirements. One shouldn't feel restricted to the limitations of a single grade.
