I'm looking at having the CC put back in my Dodge as I will most likely be relocating in the next year, and where I am now is reasonable prices as well as I had a good experience with the shop the last time. I want to know (because it has been so long, and I went from stock to not the same day) is if putting the CC back on with my performance muffler will dampen the sound a little...I actually would like to go a touch quieter. Hauling heavy loads I get a little drone, but not much.

Thanks, Tom, that is what I was looking for...I couldn't even remember what it sounded like with it on...I'm glad it will be a little quieter.

If its too loud your either too old or don't have your window's up.

j/k, your kitty should lower the tone down a bit but raise your egts a little as well. Actually I've been looking for a small muffler to add to my str8 pipe. The raspiness of the CR motor is a little annoying after almost 4 years.

Resonators (i.e. look like cats without their guts) help to bring out a deeper tone too. I've made a few of my own with some 18 gauge 304 slip rolled to size. Weld caps on and bolt in place of the feline.

My goal is two fold on this one I guess...take a bit of the loudness out, and keep me legal for an out of province inspection..
I'll be able to quiet the front down a bit at the intake as well by putting a prefilter on my Proguard 7 filter...that usually takes some of the whistle and whoosh out without being a permanent fixture or change...adds filtering efficiency too, and I haven't noticed much of a reduction in flow.

I'm surprised you went four years straight piped on a 3rd gen...I heard on once at a stop light as I had my drivers window down, and it just about made me deaf...raspy and harsh. Can't aimagine what it would be like towing a heavy trailer at 70mp/h

Well I have come to the conclusion that the added length of the exhaust due to the long bed and having a turn down tip helps with noise. There is no drone but towing above 2k rpms is a little loud. I am thinking about adding a dynomax bullet race muffler. Designed for race gas engines but also suitable for diesels, kinda like a mini glasspack. My cousin put one on his 06 with the cat and it had a nice deep tone to it. My cat will stay in the garage unless they implement diesel emissions tests in my state and county.

I also just sent in a sample the other day with 10k on Amsoil Ame. I plan to run it out to 1 yr again. If I don't like the results, I am going to try mystik at 10k intervals, since it is so cheap.

I'm interested in your AME uoa...what is the difference in price with the Mystik? Have you ever thought about running their SB 15W50? I know some folks try out XW30 weight oils...you don't hear much about XW50...I know Amsoil makes that 20W50, and Mystik has theirs, they would be great for high mileage Cummins. But a high mileage Cummins would be somehwere in the neighborhood of 500 000 miles.

I'm sure glad the site has an "ignore user" function...it helps to keep away the comments as above with no real constructive value to what was asked in the original question.

Do you expect people to post replies/comments to your questions like what you posted?

Allow me to help you out for future reference, in case you come across a social situation which requires a little more"finesse", or diplomacy...
You said,
"Put your cat back on. Have some consideration for others who don't want to breathe in your filthy, uncatalyzed exhaust."

But perhaps saying something like,
"Well, one positive to putting your catalytic converter back on would be that it leaves a cleaner footprint on the environment...less pollution benefits everyone"

Don't you think this would have been more constructive? As well as getting me to see your point of view without me having to quote your post and expose it for the rude comment it was?
Regards,

Not really, some people can't really help the way they act...nothing like belittling someone for something they were going to do anyways, because they feel "its the right thing to do" Doesn't surprise me...

I'm sorry D-Roc, you're right I was rude. What I meant to say was, you're an inconsiderate a**hole for ever taking your cat off in the first place.

i took the 6 cats off of my 98 mustang, replaced them with a Bassani offroad X pipe. the car was significantly louder, 120dB according to the CA certified noise test, and was a gross polluter. this was on a car that was below the 96.5dB sound limit with Spintech mufflers and always blew 0HC on smog tests. i was rather proud of increasing my carbon footprint. plus it was the single largest HP gain i did to that car, so win/win. o and the smell out the exhaust was heavenly, especially when i was on the dyno and played with adding some leaded race gas for the heck of it.

DO you even KNOW the purpose of a catalytic converter on a diesel?
