Castrol Syntec

I used it for quite a while with stellar results in several vehicles. Too many folks still hold the III vs IV fiasco against it IMO.

we all have our on mental idea of what type of oil to use, but Castrol is good oil, when I had a motorcycle it did a good job, never a problem. Never heard of anyone losing an engine over it. But Ive never heard of anyone losing an engine over any oil , unless it went dry of oil.

Very mediocre synthetic that never met some of the most common high performance specifications such as GM 4718M. I would put any regular GF-4 on par with Syntec.

In Canada, they rolled out an oil specifically for GM 4718M bc Syntec did not meet it.

Edge is their premium offering. Syntec is and has been overpriced oil.

Its a oil.

Does not have the following for the koolaid drinkers here so its a also ran.

For me (and I've run it with UOAs unlike MOST other here) better than other koolaid here but 2 things that kill it for me;

1. Their !@#^$& marketing

2. Cost...

I can only speak for the 5w30 flavor, but it is way too thin. It had sheared down to 9.2 cSt at only 3000 miles, with
Besides, why pay $$ for any of the regular Syntecs when GC is the same price?

As someone said, the rest of the Syntecs are there so the average joe can subsidize the average BITOGer buying GC

I don't pay much attention to their marketing, but I agree that its high cost is its disadvantage over the other "synthetic" oils such as PP, Synpower. If I can buy PP or Synpower for less than $2/qt after rebate (sometimes it was less than $1/qt) why should I pay $5-6/qt for Syntec ?

I agree about GC, one of the best oils out there for general North American use. The rest of the Syntec line is just good oil, not great, but good. I've used in in the past, and would use it in the future if rebates made it competitive on price with others that frequently offer rebates.

It doesn;t meet GM 4718m, so you can't use it in any of their high performance vehicles, and it is priced absurdly high for what you are getting....a glorified dino.

I tried it once in my 3000GT and it gave it BAD lifter tapping. Not just startup tick, but a steady upper valvetrain tapping that wouldn`t go away. I completed a 3000 mile oci with it despite the noise that never went away with this particulat oil (it was Syntec 10W30). Drained it and went with Valvoline dyno next time around and all of the noise went away and never came back. GTX I feel is a very good oil,but I`d never go anywhere near Syntec ever again.

I personally like GC, and have used it in all four of our current daily drivers.
It is in the Subaru right now, and will go in again at the next change.
I have used the 5w30 flavor of Syntec in the '99 Accord and noted no problems.
The Honda is admitedly easy on oil, and does not require anything thick.
GC is a pretty good buy when Syntec is offered as part of an oil change special at either AZ or PB.
You can always get better deals on M1, PP or Synpower, among others, with MIR. You don't often see MIR deals on Syntec.
Aside from GC, the lack of great deals as well as nothing special in the oil make Syntec an afterthought for me.
