Just wondering what is everones thoughts on Castrol GTX I have been thinking of using it my gradfather is a diehard user and says thats all he has ever run in all of his cars.
and what does GTX stand for anyway?

dont know what it stand for but my grandfather is big on castrol too. From what I gather GTX has a pretty good ad package and I have seen UOA's here where people have run it over 5k and it was still alive. Pretty impressive for a dino. Not the oil I use but still a good product.

Everything your grandfather once knew about oil is obsolete.

That usually included wisdom such as only using oil that came from a Pennsylvania well. (How many PA brand names can you name?) And additive packages based on castor seed oil.

Old Castrol GTX was a good oil. The current Castrol GTX is an even better oil, but it's certainly very different.

Been a long time PYB user, but ocassionaly run other things..and actually runnng Castrol GTX 5w30 for the next 4 months.. I know its too hard anymore to comare one SM rated conventional to another since the lines are blurred and they all are great..But is there any reason to assume GTX could be better than PYB in any ways?

Castrol is over priced and there are better oils for cheaper like Pennzoil Yellow Bottle. The choice would be clear to use that... Why spend more for less of a product (Castrol).
