Since Castrol has now combined EDGE and Syntec, I am thinking about trying it. I have heard good things about EDGE because it has a long OCI, but how long should I run EDGE with Syntec. Only $21 so it is a good deal. Thanks

I wouldn't say that they combined them...both are re-formulated...one is now called EDGE with Syntec (black bottle)...and one is called EDGE with titanium (gold bottle)...

Both are good oils...in the case of your 4.6, it depends on what kind of driving you do, but you should be able to run either as long as you've been running the QSUD...

I was under the impression that it was more of a name change than a true "change" although there has probably been a SM to SN formulation change.

Castrol Edge w/ Syntec = Syntec with new name
Casrol Edge w/ Titanium = old Edge with new name and apparently Ti.

That's what I think too.

true... i run QSUD for 7-8K, EDGE could handle it im sure, i have heard that EDGE is a 15K OCI, is that true?

I have seen EDGE recommended for cars whose drain interval is 15K...but that's not quite the case with your F-150.

I used to have a Ford Expedition with the 5.4 Modular...it was a 5K OCI wasn't it? It should easily go past the factory OCI...but I wouldn't push it out too far past the 7-8K you've been running without a UOA to let me know how it was holding up...I am known for being conservative...other guys with more recent experience with the Ford Modular are better able to answer this question...

Ya i think it was 5k. According to castrol.com, EDGE with Titanium has an OCI of 15K or 1 year. I would run it more like 10-12K at most.

Haven't seen either of the new products yet.

All I've seen are jugs of SM Syntec that say on the front 'exceeds the requirements of ILSAC GF-5".
