I've tried almost every single synthetic oil on the market (except Amsoil, Redline and Royal Purple). Today I changed my oil to Castrol Edge 10w30. This is the first time that my engine is silky smooth on idle and driving. I am a believer.

Anyone else get the same results? I'm hearing about this new Pennzoil product and I'm willing to try.

Because this is a 15,000 mile oil, I will leave it in that long. I will also change the filter every 7,500 miles. After 15,000 miles, I will send my oil to Blackstone for an analysis.

Keep in mind that I burn 1 quarter every 3,000 miles.

I have repeatedly read this "smoothness" comment here also. I wanted to try it next OC, but the BP drilling disaster has me tending to some other brand.

Funny how these threads come up from time to time. Sorry I'm a little OT here. I will be trying Edge 0W20 soon and 5W30 at some point, both oils are sitting in my stash.

For my most recent OCI I swapped oil in my 93 Aerostar and used oil some odd ball qts of oil I had around here. This time I used PYB 5W20 with M1 5W40 Truck & SUV [50/50] with a 300 ml can of LM. I took the Aerostar on an 80 round trip last night and was amazed at how well it was running. Lots of variables here but I have to say it ran great!

I was fooling around to see if I could cut back on the oil leak/use I have, and trying to clean shop.

Please note I am not a M1 fan, but will openly admit I'm happy with the way this vehicle is running on this mix.

The current and previous fill in my Nissan were both Castrol EDGE 5w30. While the engine does seem to like EDGE, I can't say I've noticed it being any smoother than the fills prior to those when I was running Valvoline SynPower 5w30.

I thought the edge was great in my engine, but my uoa showed iron went up from 9 to 19, and lead went up from 3 to 22!

That was compared to my run of Amsoil SSO. I have ultra in there now so I will send that out when my miles get up there.

I swear I bought this oil before the disaster!! I bought it January when Advance Auto had one of their sales.

Are you sure it wasn't metals from bullets flying around in Detroit??!!! Just kidding! Yes, since you mentioned that, I am kind of concerned. That's ok, I'll just see with the analysis.

Junk yard Hyundai Elantra 199,000 miles. I've been taking care of since the previous owner beat, strangled, and left it to die at the junkyard. Because of me, it's running awesome.

+1 It is best to do a UOA after the second run of an oil. At least that is what most of the guys experienced in reading UOA reports say.

You have got to be kidding me? Do you also boycott the airlines that "caused" 911? Really, it was a tragic oil accident, I in no way hold BP responsible for it. I am sure that they could probably do without all the problems, I think they are doing all they can, and alot more than anybody else is. Seems everyone else is content to finger point and whine. That said, back to the point, I have purchased some Castrol Edge and am going to use it next oil change, as much as I hate to admit it, the Pennzoil Ultra is super smooth in my wifes car and it will be hard to beat. Still so far my best gas milelage gains have been with Quaker State full synthetic.

I've read that before. Maybe you said the same thing in another quote? Nonetheless, for that reason, I'm thinking about using QS synthetic for my next fill. Though, surprisingly, when I polled to solicit input on what oil to try next (see this post), it only got a single vote. Hands down, the Pennzoil synthetics were the most recommended.

More of the blame game about the oil spill. Where is the thankfulness that rich evil oil companies that provide us with gasoline and oil, something I very much would prefer not to do without. Regardless of thier profit margin, I find that oil is very important, anyone that doesnt agree, go a year without, or perhaps a month without anything made from oil, this includes plastic, electricity and anything that you didnt make of grow in your backyard. People have become so ignorant or the ease and plushness of their lifestyle that they have felt compelled to takeone other responsiblities to care for wildlife and enviromental issues with such vigor that they forget that we dont need polar bears and manatees, as much as we need oil. Alternate energies are a placebo for the "real thing" its a near beer approach. If there were still dinosaurs on earth, I am absolutely positive that there would be some group of nut cases to protect the T-rex, although it did nothing but pose a threat to mankind, exactly like I see no use for the aligator in Florida, yet you arent allowed to kill them, Oh yeah, Castrol Edge, good stuff.

Vote with your wallets, but I fear/doubt any of them would act differently. It usually takes an accident for humans to see the potential for them, so hopefully, this is a wakeup call. Same goes for using seat belts, helmets, eating right, etc. etc.

No. First lof on the car when it was new was Amsoil 5w30, then I switched to TSO (old 0w30) and used that a couple times, and then it had been on SSO (new 0w30) since then. I ran one oil change of Edge for about 4500 miles (If I remember correctly) but did not uoa that change. On the second lof of Edge I ran for 3200 miles and sent in the sample.

So the sample was taken on my 2nd running of Edge. I don't know what would explain the increases like that. Blackstone said the lead increase is most likely bearing wear

Sounds like you have an impending engine disaster. Is there noise or loss of power or fuel mileage?

Theres the good ole Oil Co stooge stance

I'm boycotting their products and then proceeding with a hostile takeover afterwards changing the Name to Bluto's Petrol. Syntec will become "SIN-TREK" the Wondrous Fauxsyn, and, Edge will become "Precipice Especiale"
