The part of my state's first degree murder law, relevant to this perp's plight:

5-10-102. Murder in the first degree.

(a) A person commits murder in the first degree if:
(1) Acting alone or with one (1) or more other persons:

(A) The person commits or attempts to commit a felony; and

(B) In the course of and in the furtherance of the felony or in immediate flight from the felony, the person or an accomplice causes the death of any person under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life;

....

Most modern codes would bag this perp with the death of anybody along his route.

A recent news story involves a cop responding to a crime scene and getting into a wreck that killed him. The suspect was NOT in the car hitting the cop's car.

Yet, the suspect is being charged with murder.

What's scary is that if you happen to be involved in an event that results in death, even if the dead party is only remotely connected to you or your action, the door is open for you to be charged with murder or a sub-charge related to murder/homicide/manslaughter/etc.

To me, it's an example of the ever-growing power of the state and the decline of personal freedom.

I do not advocate extreme change or overthrow of the elite-owned governments for no reason.

It does seem that there's always some overzealous prosecutor looking for a way to wangle his way into some method of depositing a phallus in any target of opportunity.

What's funny is that no one seems to find anything wrong with someone who has a baseline disposition of this demeanor toward the world. This is a defective personality anyway you look at it if there's any sense of balance to existence.

I keep seeing the MC at the coliseum looking for the next sensational entertainment item for the citizenry to view. Kinda like a Michael Jordan thing. You make a mockery of the game ..but you can't beat the entertainment value for the spectacle of it.

I hope the car thief is a citizen so they will be allowed to charge him and not just deport him.

He is an illegal according to a car forum member who lives in Phoenix. Don't worry they won't/can[t deport him.

I'm going to sue Star Jones. I saw a picture of her taking a bubble bath. That gave me a heart condition and night terrors.

I assume that as an educated and literate man, you are not using a double negative, and so I agree with you.

Thanks for reminding me I can sue for damages since I laughed so hard about the perp possibly being charged with the circling buzzards crash. I fell and bumped my wife and she fell into the breakfront and the breakfront fell against the wall and caused the gas line on the stove on the other side of the wall to rupture and explode and blew up my house and the fire spread to 30 other houses destroying the whole neighborhood killing everyone.
Hmm, who gets the death penalty in this case?

Does anyone remember the ---- Popporatzi
chasing Diana in her car in the French tunnel causing them to crash?
I don't remember those lowlifes getting charged with anything!

I like papparazzi on my pizza.

So.... sue me or sumpthin'.

Suing a poor guy is akin to the judge sentencing a 98 year old to life in prison.

When you are at the bottom yah' ain't got much to lose.

It is referred to in most states as the Felony Murder rule and it has been around a long time. It typically states that if you are comitting a felony crime and during the commission of that crime any person or persons dies in the crime scene or responding to the scene or to the crime in progress, the suspect can be charged with murder.

If you rob a bank and a customer in the crime scene during the crime in progress has a heart attack and dies you are in jeopardy of being charged with murder under the felony murder rule.

If an officer is killed in an accident responding to the crime in progress you are comiting and it is a felony crime of any kind (violent crime or property crime) you are in jeopardy of being charged with murder under the felony murder rule.

Easiest way to avoid this is not to do any crimes.
