Hi Helen,

We never hear what kind of car you have. What do you have?

What oil do you use and how frequent do you change it?

It's all there, all you have to do is search for it.

Now, back on topic, if that's possible, please.

I drive a 2000 Mazda 626 LX that Tony gave me for Mothers Day. I have 90,000 miles on it. I have the oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles. I provide the oil and filter because I want only synthetic oil. I use a lighter weight in the winter and a little heavier oil in the summer. The tires are rotated and balanced every 5000 miles. I change the air filter the first week of June each year. I use a fuel injector cleaner every 1,000 miles. When I get an oil change I have all the fluids and belts checked. I read the owners manual and have all the suggested maintenance done.

I still have the 1982 Cadillac. I drive it once in a while. Tony posted a picture of in the photo section. The title is Winter in Arkansas page 84 and post # is 702072.

I try to take care of my car and riding lawn mower like any BITOG member would.

How often should I add the cleaner? I am trying make sure it is properly maintained. A friend of Tony's told me that was what I should do. I have a lot of in town driving.

Thank you in advance.

Yea, I agree.

Opinions vary, but around every 5,000 miles or a couple tanks of gas before an oil change would be great.

So you just randomly posted a question in someone else's thread that has nothing to do with that thread's topic?

Yes. Don't sweat it, it's all good.

Once just prior to each oil change is typically enough, unless you have some really bad fuel in your area.

You took great care of your car, the next owner is a very lucky person.

My schedule maintenance is at least double yours and as much as 10 times.

I change air filter every 4-6 years, fuel injector cleaner every other year a couple tanks before smog test(about 20-25k miles), dino oil every 6-7k miles and 10-14k miles with synthetic.

Helen, like others mentioned, you over maintain the car!
Synthetic oils can go longer than 6 months or 5000 miles (2x IMHO), and air filter once a year sounds too much unless you drive 30,000 miles or it's very dusty. I personally don't do injector cleaning sooner that 20,000 miles, but I only use quality fuels (Chevron and Shell).

Thank you all for the information. I will slow down on the maintenance. Early this year it dawned on me that I had not changed the battery in over 6 years because every time I turned the key on it started instantly. I took the car to AZ to have them check the battery and they said it needed to be replaced. I ask what brand was in the car because I wanted the same brand. The clerk took the battery out and could not find a brand name and the manager came out and he checked for the battery name on it and could not find it anywhere. I stood there by them and I could not find anything on it. They said it had to be the original battery. I had them to change the battery.

All I know is that so far it has been very reliable. I also use good gas. I ask the manager how often they check their tanks for water and he said each day when the take the readings to determine how much fuel to order. When I worked for Getty oil and for the largest Shell jobber in NM we checked the fuel for water each day.
