Capital One data breach 2019

I got hit by this today. Luckily I had my email app open and saw one pop up from Capital One saying my password had changed. I immediately checked the app and saw my contact number had been changed. I called them and after some checking they were able to put the account on lock. A checking account had been created and money transferred from a savings account to checking, but the lock was put on before anything was able to be removed.

My C1 debit card was compromised last week. They are quite possibly the worst piece of [censored] bank on the planet, with ONE exception, which is their fraud protection. Otherwise, only idiots, poor people, and ignorant people use them. I consider myself ignorant, as they happened to be the first bank I went with and I was 16 or 17 or something at the time and just didn't know. Now, my longest credit accounts are with them and cancelling their services would torpedo my score, so screw me

I never cared for their commercials. Like they were doing you a favor by doing business with them. "Who's hand is in your wallet"?

Big oof!
What are the rates on THAT!? My credit score typically hovers in the mid 700's, and the rates on my C1 CC's are 19-22%.

I had some experience and my auto loan at present (2019 origin) is 3.2% for 72mo, and before that (2015 origin), was 2.72 for 78mo. I went through a local CU.

I have an account with them on accident. I had an old Orange ING savings account which was absorbed into C1. Then I had a Bass Pro MC which was through Bank of America who I use for my daily banking. B of A dropped them so C1 picked them up. There were no charges made to that card so I am good there.

it's 5.99%. 60mos (2019 origin)...
I walked in to the dealer with my a pre-approved blank check loan from my bank (PNC), I think it was 6.2%
they(dealer finance dept) insisted they could probably beat my rate...and they did... not by a lot... but.. .21% is still .21%...

Holy brutal! 2x the rate a credit union would offer. Yup. Their auto loans are as bad as the rest of their rates.

Thankfully Capital One's not in my wallet.....

As a side note, I'd sure appreciate it if hackers could get in and wipe out the debt of cardholders....‚

Dude if that's your true opinion of them, take the (small) hit on your credit score and move to a bank in which you have confidence. Or since you're concerned about credit score, leave the cc account open, never use it, and move everything else. Simple.

Nah people who use credit cards as a loan to overspend and auto loans to over spent deserve to pay it back + interest.

I have Cap 1 . I also have a lot of miles unused. I gave up spending by cash and check and went to CC after my Mother's bank account was hacked about a decade ago.

If my CC gets hacked I don't care ... not my money. If my bank gets emptied and it takes months to resolve I would be in a bit of a bind.

Absolutely NO personal bank issued debit card use other than cash withdrawals from the bank proper - and I'm even rethinking that.

OP
Another reason to FREEZE your Credit Reports at the three (or five) credit agencies.

AND monitor your Monthly Statements of current accounts.

All of this traced back to a Seattle tech worker under the stage name "Erratic".

He has been arrested.
