Hi all,
I have a kohler command 13 hp single cly and I'm not getting fire to the plug. Can you check the ignition module to see if it's bad?
Thanks,
Randy

Before testing the IM...install a new spark plug. Still no spark -then remove the wire to goes to the IM and try starting again. Still no spark - reset the gap between the IM and the flywheel and try starting again.

I've installed a new plug. It's not my only mower and I started having problems with it restarting while hot last year. I pulled the cover off to check the magnets. Cleaned with scotchbrite, although they looked OK. Just checked the gap and it is .007. I need to try and find what it should be. I haven't removed the ignition module so that is where it was at.

I checked to spec for the gap and it said .008 - 0.12. I set it at .010 and also unplugged the kill switch wire and still no spark.

Remove the plug wire from the coil output. Set your digital multimeter to read in thousands of ohms and touch one of the leads to the coil output. Touch the other lead to the power input terminal from the alternator or battery. You should get an ohm reading somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 ohms. If your meter reads an open circuit or (infinite ohms), or a short circuit (zero ohms), then it's time to replace the coil.

You need to check the ignition coil when it is not working. If you have verified that it is not generating spark and verified that it is not grounded, just get a new one. I suspect you can find one on ebay real cheap.
