Don't know if this is a coincidence or not. 2008 Audi q7. Oil changes every 10,000. Car has 135,000 miles on it and is due for the next change. So up to 75K miles used factory Audi oil - was covered by Audi. Then used castrol edge once, mobil 1 0w40 a couple times, And had audi change it once. At 100K miles developed a misfire on all cylinders - random - usually when cold, but not always. Did some research and it seems to be a common issue with the Audi v6, lots of recommendations about techron, reprogram by audi or just live with it. When it started at 105K I replaced the plugs and coils. None of that seemed to make a difference. At the 125K oil change I used Penzoil Ultra Euro 5w40 and shortly after never had another misfire. It's now been smooth sailing for almost 10K miles.

So heres the questions. Could the oil have made the misfires go away? I have read penzoil has more cleaning additives than other oils? I wanted to go with 0w40 mobil 1 because A-its getting to be winter and B-its 1/2 the price of the penzoil.

Thoughts?

Oil passing through the valve cover/spark plug tubes into the piston chamber will cause misfires.
