I've found about 2 quarts of some mineral 20w50 which is what my Ford Capri uses , there is a "print" on the bottle that says 11/09 , which would suggest this oil was from November 2009? Can i still use it?

I would give it a little shake in case anything has dropped out of suspension and not worry. But I typically underestimate concerns of this sort. Like eating moldy cheese...I just cut the mold off and eat the cheese and I'm still alive.

I've used 4 years old oil and everything still works.
I did shake it but dont even ask my why. I just did it because i "felt" it was the right thing to do after being stored for such a long time.

Should you use 6 year old oil in a 40 year old car? Yes

I would probably trust a old container of name brand oil, just as much if not more, than a generic cheap brand oil made today. Within reason of course. I would still want the old oil to be sealed and meet the API spec (or better) of what is required by the car in question. Given this oil is from 36 years into the future from when the car was made, it's probably better than anything used when the car was new.

I've heard of people running much older oil than this without any problems.

That oil is millions/billions of years old. Another 5 years aint gonna hurt a thing.

LOL

I use oil thats been sitting longer than that. As suggested, shake it up. Oil does not spoil sitting around.

Some guy on BITOG recently ran 20 year old oil that had been sitting. He posted a UOA and it was fine.

Your oil will be perfect. Definitely use it

that'll be 3 different brand of motor oil i have in my engine at the moment since i have to top it off every 1.5 months or 2 months i try some different brands but i'll start using just the Shell HX3 from now on and might try Valvoline VR1

I just offered up some free Redline manual transmission fluid that I bought 20 years ago. There were several people that wanted to use that stuff in their cars. 5 years is nothing. I'd rather sit in a clean bottle for 5 years than a couple of months in a dirty crankcase.

I would definitely be carefull mixing too many oils (worse if from different basestocks). No matter what they say IMO it's not a good idea to mix different brands and types of oils.
