Free stuff never made anyone successful ever. More free stuff just makes more poor people.

There might be an exception to this hard human rule, but we aren't in heaven.

And the power companies just see a path to charge rich people MORE. There is no other reason for them to favor this other than maybe the poor bums who never pay anyway, might actually pay a little, as well. Maybe.
No one in this country or any other made it 100% themselves. We all benefit from mutual investments. That is how system is designed.
But let’s remember, this is program pushed by companies, not government. So there is a catch that assures profit. As I stated, it is preemptive move to make sure government doesn’t get for real about curbing oligopoly.

Or let's ignore the people that fight any policy that might help because they don't want to pay any taxes to deal with those problems (or again, NIMBYs who don't want shelters/treatment centers opened in their neighborhoods). And then point to it failing and says "see look government doesn't work. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. Please point to the policies those cities have that are "causing" the problems."
Some social theories sound good on paper but are tragic, detrimental and downright harmful when put into practice.

Unfortunately everything in this country these days is captured by one industry or another with deep, deep pockets and the ability to "donate" (read: buy off) any politician they want as much as they want and hide behind citizens united to do so. Things were bad before, but Citizens United is what sent things downward. Lobbying should be straight up illegal. The rotating door of people from companies going to work for a regulatory body to implement changes that benefit their past employer, and then a few years later and going back to that company again for a huge pay raise needs to be stopped. There is too much corporate money in politics, and that is how corporations have managed to own literally everything- and then convince people that what they say is the best solution. Does anyone here have any idea how many laws are quite literally drafted by company lawyers and sent to the congressman who represents them?

It's a staggering amount. Laws are quite literally being written by corporate laywers to benefit the company they work for, and those bills go straight to be proposed. Regulatory capture is a huge problem. The previous FCC head was a Verizon lawyer, and he passed all sorts of rules that benefited Verizon. Do you know who he works for now? A private equity firm who profits very well off of the policies he put in place due to their ownership of telecom companies.
