Y'all:

A c&p from my son's brand new 2019 F-150 with the Coyote V8. We dumped the factory fill at 1k miles. This was the factory installed filter.

FWIW,

Scott

What did you replace it with?

With it being a brand new vehicle with just 1k miles, he bought a MC FL500S from the dealer. We put Castrol Edge Extended Performance 5w-20 in it. He'll dump that at 5k miles, then do 5k OCIs from that point on. His work is close by. He only drives about 6K or 7k miles per year.

Keep a close eye on the oil level. The 2018+ Coyotes consume a lot of oil for the first 10k miles or so. Ask me how I know. A lot of people have had long blocks replaced.

Check out the f150forum.com under the 2015-present section and just start reading.

That a huge sump, no need for 5K oci.
Enjoy a once a year oil change.

More OC = worse not better.

About 15 cycles, or more, of 20-50 mph acceleration at about 3/4 throttle on a warmed up engine is what m old school repair manual recommends for break in to set the rings.
I think Ford used Champ before and they looked better. This looks like an entry level Wix.

If his normal driving is Home > Work > Home and the distance is only a couple of miles, you may want to do a UOA at that 5K oil change. The hardest driving condition for your oil is short hops that don't let your engine get hot enough and persist long enough to burn off water and fuel contamination that occurs naturally with every cold start.

I actually like the OCI procedures used in Europe. The computer keeps track of everything and your interval can be anything from 1K to 15K depending on the way the vehicle is being driven. Short hops with cool-down between them result in short OCI intervals.
