Because they may not have the correct information? I have seen nothing thus far to backup any claims that M1 at WalMart is any different than M1 at AZ, AAP, Napa, etc. The only difference being the printing on the bottles. Someone has posted that very question from what seems to the the Mobil website FAQ; it states there is no difference.

Do you have defacto information from a reliable source that proves that it is different? All of the UOAs that I have seen posted here show no difference...

I used to buy all my oil at Walmart--and from Walmart.com--but, based on xzeroth's statement, I will never buy from them again. In fact, I will never set foot in another Walmart, and I will urge everyone I know to do the same. I will blog and post reviews to the same effect.

I won't make any specific claims against Walmart, though. That would just be... Dumb.

but walmart saves lives

not sure if your making a joke or not, but i would have been COMPLETELY F'ed without them when i was laid off for 11 months..

I think about the best value is PP at Walmart for engine oil. Its expensive to ship so there needs to be a good reason to order it online. But for ATF and gear oil there is, thus I get that from Amsoil. I believe Amsoil makes the best ATF available, assuming your vehicle is spec'ed for one of Amsoil's ATFs. My Jeep has Amsoil in the transmission, transfer case and differentials. The engine has some dino oil in it as its a reman and does not have 6K on the engine as Marshall recommends to go to synthetic.

This is such a bogus subject. It's right up there with "Quaker State will sludge your engine" and "Pennzoil turns to wax."

The fact that Mobil published a clear and unambiguous statement on the subject is enough to satisfy me. Unless someone has some actual facts to the contrary, I believe that the Mobil 1 sold at Wal-Mart is the same as the stuff sold everywhere else.

Oil manufacturers have never had any problems dodging questions in the past, why would Mobil lie about this when they could just say nothing?

(Saying that i saw thos bottles year ago)

Thats what we are asking you???? Why would you start a thread claiming this to be true, because your "heard it"? Why would you post this with out any info? You were not asking if if was different you stated it was different with out any knowledge or fact.

It's not just slander against Walmart; it's against Pennzoil, Valvoline, et. al. because they're being accused of selling lesser-quality products with their brand name on them. I know Walmart pulls some serious weight, but come on now...

On a slightly different note, I love the 5-quart jugs that Walmart has. I know they're starting to show up elsewhere (AAP), but still, it's so nice to have one container for an OC rather than 5 small ones...

Wal mart buys so much oil at a time they are going to get a good deal they are the biggest player in the game retail wise.

Based upon all of the above, I'm not sure what you're looking for, but I'll play.
I live in Ohio, and have never bought oil out of state, although I'd haul some home if the right deal presented itself.
In the past two years, I've bought motor oil from Walmart, Meijer, PepBoys, AAP, AZ, Big Lots, Kroger, O'Reilly and one private party on Craigslist in Columbus.
I usually buy on either a strong (cheap after) MIR deal or clearance.
WRT Walmart, SOPUS and XOM are pretty big players, and Chevron and Ashland are also decent sized.
I don't believe that any of these suppliers would cheapen their brands by offering a dumbed down product for Walmart.
Also, Walmart does offer top quality products in those name brands it chooses to stock.
It would benefit neither Walmart nor the name brand suppliers to offer a cheap Walmart-only product.
These vendors would suffer a hit to their carefully nurtured brands, and Walmart would suffer by gaining the reputation of selling only downgraded versions of name brand products.
Walmart does have its private label items, as well as some cheap Asian made stuff for those who look only at price.
Maybe I am naive, but I would bet my engines that the branded oils sold at Walmart are identical to those sold anywhere else.
I'm not one to accept the idea that everything is a vast consiracy, though, so I could be mistaken.

New guy here, I am looking for some advice on which grade of oil to use in my Duster. It has a 360 CID, mild performance increase, but the main thing is I live in Tx where the temps get over 100 in the summer regularly. I only drive it on weekends, it is a recreation vehicle. In the winter the temps get around average 50 for the days. I think that is enough of a temp change to change the oil grade for the seasons, but don't know for sure. I run presently Castrol 20/50 in the summer.

or 7 quart jugs. (OK; I am biased because my FX4 takes 7 quarts). When PU was on sale for $21 per 5 quart jug I bought 7 of them so that I would have 5 OCs. Buying a 5 quart jug and 2 single quarts costs more :P

It is a catch 22, you buy 4qts in a jug save on that, but have to pay more for the extra one or two or three. Why didn't they make it at least 5 like most cars use anyways?

But I agree walmart mobil is the same as NAPA mobil oil...

I always buy my engine oil at either Canadian Tire or Wal-Mart. That's simply where the best prices are.

Edit - I skipped to the end to post....now wish I hadn't.

Agree with others - IF there was a different formulation, it would have been found out on here.
