I had a burned out brake light in my 2008 Chevy Suburban so I decided to change out all the bulbs. It was one of the easiest type of lighting assemblies ever to remove. Two screws and a bit of jiggling and it comes free. It took two 3057 bulbs for the brake and signal, 7441 for the back up light and a 194 for the side marker. I couldn’t find a 7441 so substituted in a 7440 with was a few watts less. Enjoy.

No mention of a smear of dielectric grease? Lessens resistance.....lowers operating temps....shows others how cool you are!
Actually no. The originals didn’t have grease and the housing was very water tight with good seals on each bulb receptacle. Looks like Chevy chose to make the housing air tight rather than grease each bulb.

Most people would change out the burnt-out bulb in dual lamp stop light housings than replace them both. My preference would be to replace both bulbs because the other bulb might be failing along also. If it's for a customer, it might result in a comeback repair.

nice and easy as it should be, GMT900?

Great truck body, I think this was the years of the LQ4 6.0. Is your Suburban a 2500 or standard duty? As you can guess from the name, I love Suburbans. Best SUV ever made IMO.
Good guess. Mine is a 2500 (3/4 ton) with a 6.0 LY6, which came right after the LQ4 except it has variable timing and rectangular port aluminum heads. The engine came with the 6 speed 6L90 transmission with an electronic manual gear selector and it also has the 10.5" 14 bolt with full floating bearings and a 3.73 gear set. It now has 250,000 miles. It has the towing package with the aux. radiator in the front and has in-radiator oil cooler.

It's my fourth Suburban and the only one I bought new. I ordered it from a check sheet in late 2007 and picked it up in the spring of 2008..
I hope to keep it going as the low depreciation makes it fairly cheap to run. There's a badge of honor that comes with running an old Burb. :D

@Snagglefoot

I have a gmt400 2500 burb (99) and a gmt800 (2004), love them both. One has 3.73 and the other 4.10, both with the 4l80 and NP246. These are my 3rd and 4th.

In my 2008, I also got one of the first Magna Powertrain transfer cases. It’s a MP 3024 NQH, with the Auto Trac. Since it uses a clutch pack, I tried to minimize the amount it was in auto. It has 250,000 miles but I always had to clean plenty of shavings from the chain clinging to the magnetic plug.

most do not like the NP246, or any auto 4wd, quoting the clutch packs. They are the same clutches found in auto transmissions. Fluid changes are a must however. I have no experience with the magna. I have seen no issues with then provided they are used properly, and maintained.

I missed this thread. Good stuff @Snagglefoot. I also go the incandescent route in these. Just easier.

With how cheap long life bulbs are on RockAuto, $.79, and how easy on these trucks. Doing them periodically is easy insurance.

Are those the stock housings on your 900… or like a later tail lamp housing? For some reason I seem to remember a “flatter” tail lamp housing on my buddy’s 08 Tahoe.

Yes, they’re stock.
