So I'm having trouble finding a longer filter for 3 of my cars (all use the same filter).

My STI is the only one that gets a fancier K&N filter and maybe Wix soon.
But the other 3 i'm trying to run on a budget, 2017 Legacy 2.5, 2018 Civic Si, and 2019 Ascent.

I like the $2.80 supertech filters (not the ecores) but they discontinued the 7317 size, and now they call for 6617 (TINY) for all of these cars.. I'm sure it's fine but i'd like a longer filter!

Is there any other quality oil filters under $4 to be found?

The Legacy gets 8k on 0w20, Civic Si and Ascent both get 5k miles on 5w30 synthetic.

I gotta take a look at them, it *seems* that they have the 84356 which is a longer version of the 84712!

WM has the Motorcraft 910-S that goes for my Sienna for $3.97, which I believe is the regular price. Had I not decided upon Wix/Napa filters, I probably would have gone with that. I went to the Ford Motorcraft (or Omnicraft, which is their parts line for nonford cars) site and emailed their customer service. PM me and I'll give you the reply email address for them. There is one particular number from the Motorcraft filters that seems to have a lot of tears, but the rest have looked very solid when cut apart. Or you can browse their site https://www.omnicraftautoparts.com/ The filter for your applications just might slide in, under your $4 max figure.

Yeah, buy a Fram Ultra and run it two to three oci's
Much less work and a superior filter.
I've ran the 7317 out to 24K and it looked great.
Cheap filters are a false economy.
Yeah I know...………….
Stude53 ran a TG out over 20K- pictures on here

I don't understand the $4 limit as well unless you plan to keep the car a very short period of time. For $9-10 you can get the top of the line filter from walmart (Fram Ultra). $5 extra on an oil filter, one less trip to starbucks.

Buy a top line filter (Fram Ultra, NAPA Gold, etc) and run for 2 intervals. Cost = same as 2 elCheapos, and better filtration!

What oil are you using? Also for your STI I would definitely switch from K&N to Fram Ultra, the Ultra is a much better filter and cheaper. K&N isn't as great as most people think.

Supertech has a PH9688 right? It'd be interchangeable with the PH7317.

The ecore filter's design has been changed. The internal support cage resembles the Mahle filter I run in her Volvo.

I plan to try the ecore ST in my truck next. Currently running a WIX made ST.

Lets see if I have it right, you have a 2017, 2018 & 2019 , & you are trying to run it on low end junk filters to save money?
Do you buy cheap food , eat the lowest cost junkburgers? Wear clothes from Goodwill?
If you want to properly protect your investments, buy good, not cheap filters & do oil/ filt changes at or before recommended
intervals. Long term you are probably talking less than $25 more or so over a year. These cars aren't $500 beaters
The economy comes from properly maintaing the cars with quality parts, thus getting more miles out of them. Unless they are lease cars & you don't care.

The cheap filters is because they do a more than sufficient job. We also have a 2005 Legacy with 240k miles and we have only ever used Walmart filters and it runs perfectly.

The Ascent and Legacy both will he replaced right around 200k as they won't be needed in 8-9 years.
The Si is a keeper.. and I'm sure it's gonna run forever regardless of filter.

And the STI gets a K&N because of the strength of the can, it has a built motor with a big turbo, and it rarely gets driven.

The 3 commuters get whatever synthetic is cheapest, usually I just pickup a bunch of supertech, I don't do long OCIs.
The STI gets K&N because it has a really thick and strong can; this car has a built motor with a big turbo and it rarely gets driven.. usually sits in my garage with a battery tender on.

This. The 9688 is a bit shorter, but larger diameter than the 7317. Bigger than the 6607 for sure though.

Nothing wrong with the new champ made ST filters though (aside from my dislike of the combo valve on some of them). The initial e-cores had issues, but that was a decade ago and has been fixed for a long time.

And why not just use a regular Fram? There are plenty of PH7317 at every Walmart for $3.77 each.
Despite all the years of Fram bashing, it has become a really good filter. What other
or if you want cheaper, look at the Ecogard x4610 (simillar size to the 7317) or the x4460 (similar to the 3593a size) or x10479 (9688 size). They are around $2.50 on Walmart.com and Amazon (but prices will vary sometimes)
These all have the same bypass settings and base o-ring size.

I for one do have a hard time with using a filter for multiple changes, but the Ultra (or even ToughGuard) could do 2 for sure. If you changed it every other oil drain, it would be in your price range.

Or just use the 6607 size, it is plenty big for the mileage you are doing.

+ shipping. So the filter starts out more than the OP stated, then add the $2+ shipping.

For The affordable Universal Asian car filter (except Toyota) I like the Fram ToughGuard. The build quality appears to have gone up a couple rungs,.

My Nissan Likes it - and that Nissan QR25DE HATES most filters.

Let me tell you!

Wix 51357 is $4.35 at RockAuto. I guess that is 9% over budget, so you be the judge.

This really is the best scenario, honestly
