Last week I picked up a CPO 2007 Ford Focus ZX-3 S. It only has 2500 miles on it and drives nicely. Apparently a guy bought it for his wife but traded it back in for an automatic car. I have never had a car this new and was wondering how long I should let it go before my 1st oil change? My first one is free at the dealer...

I have been driving it normally, but I hear driving aggressively might be even better for the break in?

I've already stocked up on MC FL910s and am eying that jug of MC 5w20 synth blend at wally world

Has the oil been changed since the 2500 miles, or is that still the factory fill?

If that is still factory fill, I would get that out of there and put some fresh in. That jug of MC 5w20 that you've been eyeing would be just fine at this point. Have fun!!

Its already broken in.

As your going to do, get the oil changed this week and then follow the manual for OCIs.

Also, don't let the Stealership try to sell you anything else.

I work at a Ford dealership and what are they gonna sell him???

Belt? -- Covered 3-36
Bulbs?? -- Covered 3-36
Air Filter? -- Severe Duty is a 30K check
Fuel Filter?? -- is a 30K item
Trans service? --Stick not due forever
Tires?? -- Yeah right, if you need those you already know you broke somethings
If your lucky they will make sure all fluids are topped off (power steering likes to drop from full to low on the first change or two but settles out after that) and tires are inflated properly and ship it.

They might check your wipers but really what are they gonna sell on that thing????

Had my dad just stick to the 5K/5K plan. Tire rotation and oil change every 5K.

You really don't need an oil change until 5K miles. Do it sooner if you truly feel you must, but you will receive no benefit.

Today's engines just do not have a bunch of metal particles generated from "break-in".

I too suggest a 5K plan with both oil changes and tire rotations every 5K.

I would do it before 3k anyways. They may not have lots of metal (but most do), but they have lots of Silicon leftover from gasket sealing, assembly, etc. I'd like to get the break-in process over with as quickly as possible.

Just had it done - for free it was good to be sure it was changed. I'm going to go about 5k with every change.

Thanks everyone!
