Brands You Miss

JCPenny’s MCS stereo components were really nice. Word was it was made by Technics (Panasonic).
You are correct about Panasonic. I still have a working MCS receiver and a pair of their "Linear Phase" speakers. MCS also had a three year warranty too. It was a good product in its day.

Radio Shack probably was mentioned but yesterday I came across an old Radio Shack catalog while doing some cleaning. I spent an hour going through that catalog and realized how much I miss Radio Shack stores.

I miss Radio Shack too (the OLD Radio Shack that existed before the mid 90's). Being an electronics hobbyist, I shopped there at least weekly. I still have and use many products that I purchased there. At the end they had deteriorated so much that I rarely went there.
I also miss...
Western Auto
Montgomery Ward
Sears (the old Sears that existed before the mid 90's)
Kmart
Service Merchandise
Foleys
Circuit City
Steak & Ale
Johnson/Evinrude
Pontiac
Oldsmobile

Some of you may have purchased Pyle (Pyle Driver) speakers and still not know the roots in the Utah brand … they not only had finished products - but sold many components to folks who would build custom enclosures - and car spreads
Many Fender amps contained Utah speakers

There was a "home made" speaker brand in the early 80s this small mom and pop stereo store sold called Weber that used Pyle for their drivers. I can remember they were huge and had horns for the midranges and tweeters. They were built in-house there. I remember the sales guy explaining the whole process to us and demonstrating them to us in this sound room they had there. I remember the speaker cabinets had glass on top.

The original Abuelos Mexican restaurant chain and the original Carabbas before they got taken over by Darden. Same with Cracker Barrel and Cheddars too before the takeover.

Bugger....
I new casting were made in Mexico, some motors/components as far back as the 80s were made by Tohatsue.
Oh well I still have one made in Peterborough, and my lawn boy too, and my Chore Horse Generator...
I guess they will mean something more to folks like us.

I was shocked when OMC went bust and I really thought the Bombardier family would keep them in business even if just the brand names.

I would not be suprised to see the brand back again someday just made someplace else, like Crosely Stereo or or Kenmore washer.
