Brake question - 2014 F150

Company truck , recently transitioned into driving it .

We have been having some rain off & on , the last month or so . Truck has developed a moderate noise / squeak / squeal , the last few weeks . Only when the brakes are applied in reverse .

I figure something has rusted a bit . Have mostly ignored it . Figured it may go away , after everything drys out .

Brakes work fine .

First step would be to identify which wheel(s) are making noise, this is best done by standing outside and have someone drive the truck past you.

Are they chamfered pads? Maybe braking in reverse is causing a squeal in the trailing edge but the leading edge when in reverse, of the pads???

No idea if there are pads or shoes in the back .

Things will dry out in hours....

Best thing to do is take it to your mechanic to have it checked.

Either the brake system is worn and needs looked over (maybe just worn pads), which you don't have to bother with beyond reporting it because company truck, or someone has loosened your lug nuts because they're trying to kill you.

Its rear disc. F-150s have been 4 wheel disc for a long time.

You didn't say how many miles are on the truck… If it's over 50,000 then you probably need new pads in the back. I would have it looked at for sure!

Just short of 100,000 miles on the truck . I have been driving it for only a few months , so I do not know if any work has been done to the brakes . ( Doubt it . )

Since it has been raining less , with more dry periods in between , it is squeaking less . Only does it when applying the brakes , when backing up . Do not know if it is pads or shoes on the rears , but I an guessing it has to do with self adjusters ? I have never used the emergency brakes on this truck . Just stick it in park .

Might be the pad wear indicator, which is designed to make noise. Don't know if your Ford pads have one or not.

Could be crusty pads, once they can no longer shift, they squeal instead. A basic brake caliper removal, clean inspect and lube might fix it. Check the pins too. Garages don't offer this service as the labor is pretty much 100% of a brake job.

Or as JLTD stated, it may just be time for new pads.

It's a company truck, I'd complain to the powers that be. Have them check and verify that the pads are fine. I mean, it's their job not yours, right? Or are you required to handle routine work like this? If so then I'd just pull the wheels and check, maybe at tire rotation time.
