Brake pad recommendation

You seem excited about Honda OEM parts. Why don't you just buy them if you are that satisfied?

ATE pads, rotors, and fluid (available at TireRack).

Dust is nil. Noise is nada. Braking similiar to OEM. This on an 03 Toyota Matrix XRS. Front only.

Centric pads are good, the semi-metallic have better than average performance with normal brake dust levels and no noise.

Please don't use Performance Friction, they don't stop very well.
Hawk would be a better option for about the same price.

I used Ceramic Pads on two vehicles thinking they would outlast the metallic pads I was replacing. I was wrong in both instances, all they did was cost more for the pad. I used Bendix in both applications. Never had a problem with brake noise, and brake dust wasn't an issue since the vehicles were cleaned often.

Maybe there is a better brand Ceramic pad that will last longer that I am not aware of.

Hawk HPS are not noisy. And in other forums a LOT of guys use them, so I would have heard about it. Slotted or drilled rotors can be noisy, and hard on pads also.

I'm curious what application. Both the applications I have used them on were better than OEM. In fact, in both cases they work better the hotter they get. I was very satisfied with them. Not to say others aren't better. Just I haven't tried them.

I did notice the Z-rated pads have different characterists between hot and cold. But usually after one stop, they are warmed up enough.

Not sure how serious I should take someone who has his mom buy his rotors and pads...

Well does pushing the peddle to the floor and not being able to lock the wheels up mean anything. I know for a fact I had no air in the brake system.

Sorry for taking over your topic.

Rotor is rotor as long as the iron is cast in uniform quality. Honda OEM rotors are good enough, even Autozone Dura Last Gold (Chinese) are good enough. It is the brake pads' compound, surface area of the pads and the rotors, and the pressure applied, that determine the stopping power.

They stop alright, but I was referring to warping. Both sets of my OEM Acura front rotors were warped after around 30k. That's not good enough for me.

I read that thread and you and someone else had less than desireable results with the Performance Friction pads. BUT, there were a couple others that liked how these pads reacted and were happy with their purchase. Could it be you had a bad set? I don't see any overwhelming evidence that these are an inferior product...perhaps a so/so product.

That could be, maybe they have several different compounds, depending on the car. I must say they are a well made pads, they just didn't work out for me and many other people.

Advios or something like that, 65 bucks a pair for the fronts and was gonna put some cheapos for 30 bucks on the rears (not much use for those anywho)

Perhaps what you're thinking of are the Akebono ceramic pads. I've been using them front and rear for about 60k miles, and I'm very happy with them. They stop very quickly if you warm them up first, they are quiet, and I bought them because they are not dusty. I replaced some perfectly good Pagid pads because I hated how dusty those pads were.

Thumbs up to ATE or Brembo rotors.

I have run wagner Thermoquiets on my previous Chev K1500, my Chev Avalanche and my wife's Acura 3.2TL. I have been pleased with the service life and performance of these pads for what it's worth. I buy them at Partsource and usually wait until they go on 30% off when I know I am getting due for a change.

I am using PBR/Axxis Deluxe Plus on my BMW and have been very pleased with the performance and complete lack of dust on these.

Mr. Deer please don't jump out in front of my TDI without warning, I've got to warm up my brakes first.
