Ended up getting into the town about 1:30pm Friday. Did paperwork and jump started the car. I had debated putting the battery I brought with me in it, but when the Manager told me it was an Odyssey AGM and that the car had been sitting for awhile, I decided to see if it just needed to run for awhile to recharge and I would have a nice $300 battery.
Stopped at a gas station and filled up, aired up the tires (5psi low all around) and away we went. Also, I pushed in the A/C compressor relay which made the A/C begin working. Don't know why it was loose.
Well, that didnt work out. Drove about 3 hours and stopped at a rest area. My friend who was driving my '02 back, smelled something around the car. He thought it was diff fluid. We didnt find anything out back and so we went on for another hour and stopped to eat. Same smell had followed the car. So I looked a little deeper...

Yeah, so in went the Walmart battery but first I had to get tools. They had changed the factory battery hold down for an after market piece and I did not have a long enough extension or the right SAE socket to get the battery out.
Ran to Orillys and bought a $10 socket set and a long extention. Replaced the battery and got on the road again.
But..it was misfiring pretty hardcore now. I had noticed it a few times at high throttle/load in 4th gear, but it was near continuous after that. Of course the computer was clueless because it hadnt learned the crankshaft profile correction as the KAM had been cleared.
Drove it for an hour and it popped a pending for cyl 4. Stopped at a rest area and replaced the ignition coil with the spare one I carry. 5 minutes and I was on my way with all 8 cylinders again.
Things Im excited about.
- Does have the X and three dots on the valve cover indicating the updated timing chain tensioners
- Diff tag is 3L27 for 3.27:1 Traction-loc
- The rear doors are NOT disabled! The interior latch and lock rods are present and functional.
- Drives down the highway like a dream. It so nice to have the feel and precision of the 03+ steering and suspension back.
Things Im neutral about
- Car has build date 06/02. My other car is 12/01.
- VERY dirty. Has obviously been sitting for a long time and has green stuff growing on the edges and on some of the rubber trim.
Things that will cause me headache
- Tires are worse than I thought. The fronts have legal tread however the rears are done. They are Perelli P6s dated early 2010. Debating if I want to buy tires for it in 16" when I want to upgrade to the later 17" wheels. To make matters worse, my 02 is in need of tires as well.
- Fluids except for engine oil are nasty and need changed.
- The transmission reminds me of why I hate the factory valve body setup. It shifts like diarrhea, sloppy and uncoordinated.
- A factory battery tray and hold down is on the purchase list to get rid of the silly aftermarket mount.
