Bought a Nissan...

I have a 2002 Maxima and it has been nothing but reliable with 120k miles.

My dad has a 2000 Quest, which is basically a Ford with a Nissan engine and transmission. The things that failed on it were mainly Ford parts.

My sister-in-law (a truly wonderful woman in all respects) has a lead foot. She drives hard, brakes hard, and racks up the miles.

Her Pathfinder has 270,000 miles on it. She's the original owner. It runs great.

Nissan doesn't build junk, they've got some very good products out there.

On the Quest, I agree. Window motors, rattling seats and doors, I can blame Ford for.
I can't blame ford for the [censored] knock sensor/distributer setup brilliantly designed by Nissan.

Gee, I could put that sign on my '13 Accord. Bought it without doing my research having heard all my life how wonderful Honda's are and I dislike the car intensely. Nothing mechanically wrong at 6K miles but it just doesn't suit me nearly as much as the Altima. If anyone out there wants to trade me an Altima even up lets get togather.

This doesn't just apply to you, but why do people buy cars like they would buy a gallon of milk or a tomato from the grocery store?

Do you just walk into the dealer and point to a car and say "take my money"? You're spending tens-of-thousand of dollars, does it not occur to you to make sure you like it?

Some things don't become immediately apparent, I guess. For example, the car might have a seating position that becomes uncomfortable only after an extended drive - something that's hard to pick up on during a typical test drive.

In my case, it was an auto transmission. I bought an Accord with a slushbox once. During a few test drives, it was kind of cool, a novelty for me, I guess. After a few months, I was so bored with it, I couldn't wait to go back to a stick shift. Live and learn, I guess. Sometimes you learn from others' mistakes. Sometimes you learn from your own.

Genuinely curious here... what is it about Altima that suits you better than the Accord?

There is no right or wrong answer here obviously, just whatever works for one personally.

IMO, the drop in Nissan quality directly coincides with the Renault/C Ghosn Alliance. I don't know about the quality now, don't care. But having owned an 03 2.5L Altima purchased new I can say beyond any doubt that 02-03 Altima 2.5L were precat time bombs waiting to destroy the engine. This left owners shafted as Nissan did nothing of any consequence to fix the issue. If they weren't junk to begin with, they finished as junk. And the VQ35 was not immune from the issue either.

At least Nissan can blame it on their strategic alliance. What can Honda blame its drop in quality on (compared to the 90s)?

Unlike the 2.5L Altima, having never lost an engine, or AT (knock wood) on my Hondas I can't answer that question. Can only go on my experience.

Nissan really needs to bring back the 4DSC ( 4 door sports car)! Wouldn't take much to do it either, take a Maxima, sport up the suspension ( heck make it a Nismo version ) and add a manual trans.
Success.

If they did that, it would probably cannibalize the G sedan sales.

They have that -- it's called the Q50 (formerly G35/G37). It's the 350Z chassis, engine, suspension, etc. with an extra set of doors.

Years ago I was behind an 80's T-bird with paint that was peeling off in sheets. The guy had a similar sign in the back window that read "Earl Scheib painted this car".

Nissan made a huge number of duds, this isn't news.

Whoever decided to rush the first FWD Nissan Maxima into production really screwed up. Imagine taking a good engine and attaching a really badly made car to it. 1985-1988 All Maximas were pixelated piles of junk.

1995-2004 there were way too many Nissan Sentras with early engine failure.

The VG33 series engine found in some Xterras and Pathfinders would often die prematurely, which is extra shocking because the VG30 series engines were all rock solid.

The Nissan 240SX would have been much more popular if you could get a turbo engine, like the rest of the world could.

How many people know of Infiniti's step up from the Nissan Murano? Way to go, marketing department!

Also, with the talk of the 4DSC, around 2006, Nissan made an ALtima that way, they called it an Altima SE-R. It didn't catch on.

Oh well, they did one thing right in the last few years. They finally sold the GT-R worldwide.

As has pretty much any other auto manufacturer...

our 2008 armada has been very reliable. it does handle terrible as expected from an SUV, but what bugs me about it is how much engine harmonics are transferred to the cabin. Also the vibrations in the pedals and floor boards when you give it gas. it runs flawless and makes gobs of power. the VQ56 is a monster in the power department and the transmission is very responsive. It has no trouble throwing the kids heads back into the seat moving down short interstate on-ramps.

overall, i've been satisfied with it. i just dont understand why they didnt build the firewall better to block out some of the engine noise. If it was a sports car it would be glorious, but there is just too much vibrations/harmonics that come into the cabin for a family hauler.

I wonder if your NVH issues are better in the QX56.

And it's odd that they require premium in the QX56 but regular is okay in the Armada. At least that's what's listed on Edmunds.

You realize that is a brand new car- right? They can't possibly have had enough time for lack of maintenance to cause any real damage. My guess is- he's having problems, and Nissan isn't being very helpful, and he is showing his dissatisfaction in the most public and visible way possible.

X2. That Altima is way too new for maintenance to be the issue, and I bet this wasn't the owner's first step in voicing his dissatisfaction.

As for sticker placement, if you hate the car, would you care about getting it perfectly centered? It gets the message across.
